Sony announced UMD Passport for PS Vita, a program for PSP owners to transfer PSP UMD games to PS Vita. UMD Passport allows you to purchase a digital version of the UMD game from PS Store at a special discount price. To transfer a UMD game to PS Vita, you need to register the game using UMD Registration Application from the PS Store, put the UMD on your PSP and let the program finds and register the game to your PSN account, and then you can download the game on your PS Vita at a discount price between 500 to 1500 yen.
UMD Passport will support around 200 titles from 40 publishers initially, and more titles will be added shortly after.
Sony revealed full details on PSP backward compatibility on PS Vita, when you boot up a PSP game on PS Vita, you will see a "Live Area" on the screen showing the PSP game, and you have the option to adjust the setting of the game, include toggle bilinear filtering, change setting of right analog stick and change color space of PS Vita to match the PSP, you can also enable camera for certain titles.
It is possible to transfer PSP game saves to PS Vita via PS3 or PC. You need the Content Management Assistant for PlayStation if you want to transfer saves from a PC.
If you own a UMD copy of a PSP game, you can use the UMD Passport Program to transfer the game to PS Vita. You can download the game directly from PS Store or transfer it through PS3.
