Super Mario Bros. and Zelda, why? Basicly their my orgins, first game I ever played was SMB on christmas morning... it was christmas night before my parents pried me away kicking and screaming for more Mario. Yes, i know it's hard to envision me kicking and screaming for Mario. But I also have to say Zelda because it was the first very complex game I ever played.

Wow, you need to check out more. Needless to say, there's tons of great titles to play on the NES. Yes, Zelda was an absolutely A-MA-ZING first-time experience.

Ok. For RPGs, try the first Final Fantasy, and I strongly suggest playing it with the Official Nintendo strategy guide for your first time through because it actually enhances the experience greatly. Also, get ahold of Dragon Warrior and Faxanadu, if possible.
Other great games include River City Ransom, Mega Man 1-3 (4-6 are good but not quite as good), Double Dragon, Kid Icarus, Super Mario Bros. 3, Contra, Gradius & Life Force, Castlevania 1-3, Mendel Palace, Stinger, Super C (that's Super Contra), Double Dragon II (pretty tough), Super Dodge Ball, Metroid, and the list goes on and on.

Thanks for that, know where to get them from aswell. Been playing River City Ransom on the GBA must say it's rather good and different then you average side scrolling fighter.

Don't forget Balloon Fight. It's basically Joust but it kicks Joust in the balls and makes it cry because it's so bad ass.
Also don't forget Gunsmoke, Solomons Key, Bubble Bobble, Duck Tales, Marble Madness, Tetris(Nintendo ver.) R.C Pro-Am, Tecmo Bowl, Legendary Wings, Jackal and yes the list STILL goes on......... |

Super Mario Bros. for starters I never did get into Zelda much on the NES. Great games mind you, but Zelda didn't surpass the fun factor of Mario until the SNES came along. In which case Link to the Past out did Mario World. For some reason, I just didn't enjoy the SNES Mario games as much. When I was a kid, I played the original NES game so much that I could run through the game, stage by stage, without even getting touched by an enemy. The day after that, my parents finally bought me a new game (Mario 2).
For the other best one, it's tough. I would say it's either Pac-man, Ghost n' Goblins, Dr. Mario. Of course since two of those aren't in the first batch I suppose I'll go with Pac-man. However, I wonder if anyone is stupid enough to buy Pacman as an NES classic when they can buy Namco's Museum on GBA for less money and it includes Pac-man as one of its games. Personally, I think the NES classics are bit over priced. I would certainly pay five bucks for them, maybe ten simply cause they are on individual carts. But certainly not twenty. |
