What is Dragonball Kai? Its clearly a remake, but whats its focus? Retelling the story in a more succinct manner?

And The first episode of Mazinger recapped way too much. It was confusing with all of the cuts it was making.

Remember how like, 85% of DBZ was just a lot of grunting and yelling while people would raise their power, and how if you took all that shit out, it would be around 26 episodes?

They took all that shit out, so it's about 26 episodes.

Yeah the first episode was pretty good. The only thing I wonder is if it will be related to the original series at all, or a completely separate entity. I only wonder because the preview for episode 2 looks like it may be starting with the history of their childhood.

The robots with sneakers remind me of those in Steambot Chronicles, minus sneakers of course. I was never into the sports + mecha genre, but we'll see how this fairs. The animation is superb, though.
