Sales of The Wind Waker are impressive. Especially, for a game that's been out in the US for only a year.

Once it is on the Player's Choice lable and the GCN user base is matured...

Hmm. As a true sequel though (Wind Waker) it's still the weakest selling game as of yet and OoT hold a almost out of reach total.

Clearly the game was the biggest hit for the Zelda franchise. Honestly, I'm not going to buy another Wind Waker. They should go with what OoT did. I's all anyone ever talked about before Wind Waker was even announced.

Dude, the N64 user-base was 33 million compared to the GCN user-base of 15. Wouldn't your assessment be more accurate if they were paralleled?

As it stands the games are selling at the same rate per console: OOT=23% vs WW=20%.

Think about this though, OoT was a N64 system seller. Wind Waker, not so much.

That's a little deceptive too. In general, I think a lot of people buy Nintendo systems for the Zelda series. So while The Wind Waker may have not shown an immediate push, I think that it will remain one of the key reasons people pick up a 'Cube, even a year from now.

Sigh.

When people buy a new console--especially during the later half of its life--there is a list of games in the back of their head. These must-haves are the games that continue to sell throughout the shelf-life of the console. With the PS2, it is Gran Turismo 3, Metal Gear Solid 2, Final Fantasy X, and Grand Theft Auto 3/Vice City. With the Xbox it is Halo and Splinter Cell, and with the GameCube, it is Super Smash Bros. Melee, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, and The Wind Waker.

Also Metroid Prime. The game was doing around 8-9 K before it dropped out of the NPD charts. And a time ago it was confirmed that it sold more than a million copies in the US alone.

I was thinking about putting Prime up, but the Metroid series is all but ignored in Japan. However, once it gets a $10 reduction from $30, it's possible that the surge in sales could let the game caught enough fire in the US to compensate.

Funny fact. I read in Edge magazine that since MP came out in Japan the prices of the Japanese version of Super Metroid went up. Too bad Metroid was never big in Japan.

Very possible. Time will tell. It's just a really big difference in numbers between the two. Kinda suggest to me the people who got Wind Waker were the Zelda loyalist mostly. As it's just not a game a lot of people have taste for (art style wise). The story is a bit different for OoT. Were people bought that game, with not even being so hardcore about the franchise. It just had that appeal.

When I look at these number I'm convenced this will be close to what this game will total out in the end. I of course could always be wrong, I just don't see the idea being any greater of a hit a year more down the road then what it is now. The Cube is surly cheap enough to where if it was, people get it already. I just don't think the Celda idea will sell anymore to move it up into a higher spot. IMO of course. Especially if a sequel is in the works.

Bungie had just announced its forth million copy of Halo has been sold. Do you think that Halo is going to stop selling on Xbox?

No. In fact, sales will probably pick up when Halo 2 is released.

Hmmm... if you add the 2 oracle versions sales it surpasses Oot... so its a relative lead Oot has there...
