The Annoying ad...

i personally hate the ad, i realize they have to pay their bills, but that specific spot if realy annoying.

I have Ad-Muncher. And even that doesn't get rid of it! We'll probably get used to it over time though.

most of the reason i use this forum is b/c not many people (compared to most forums liek forum planet) use it.

ads show alot of people r here

You have to take into consideration that MagicBox is a big site. It's closing in on 25,000,000 hits! The forums are bound to get bigger. Not really a bad thing. The boards will always be moving, or at least more frequently then before.

Keeping up forums does cost a lot of bandwith.

Actually I believed forums is one of the most visited area's of a site. Take IGN for example, it gotten so much traffics that they made it Insider only and leaving a spam board for the non-insiders.

i think that is a good idea, for people who have been on the boards long enough, we shouldn't get ads.

...you could just download a simple utility like pop-up stopper. It.. er.. well.. stops your popups!

The only drawback on this is when a ceratain webpage links to other pages that require a window to be opened. But most popup stopper programs usually allow you to skip the popup stopping by pressing shift, then clicking the link. You open a new window.

I use that, and Ad-aware to get rid of spyware on your system that could be making the popups to... pop up!

Are threre really a lot of pop-ups on the main page? The only one I ever got was the "Win a Xbox!" one. Ad-muncher gets rid of post pop-ups and that big Lycos one here( Does MagicBox still have it? ). You can also use the "Opera" browser to stop pop-ups. But it stops ALL pop-ups. Including Java timed ones. So it's not that great.

I use Tweak-XP...does ALOT besides just block some ads. But yeah...it does that too.

it is not the popups that bother me, it is the one that is in the middle of the page on EVERY SINGLE PAGE, it just seemed, for me, to come out of no-where.

8 times it "pops" up.

Do a search on a program called pop-up-cop. It fixes a lot of annoying things, like getting your screen resized, having those dialog boxes pop up that say crap like "CLICK OK TO MAKE WWW.LESBIANLOVERS.COM YOUR HOMEPAGE!!!". HOwever, do note that it only works on IE.

ITs like a plugin that settles on your toolbars, and theres a handy slider that regulates how many features it should disable depending on how annoying the page is. I ahvent had any problems since I installed it.

You can run it for trial for like 21 days. If you are a jaded, sarcastic, kill-the-system, fight-the-power, Anarchistic freak like I am, then yes, there are ways around paying.

Theres freeware popup stoppers, one of them is called "Pop up stopper" (doh!), but its nowhere near as good as Popupcop.
