Famicom Games on GBA - Literally

Quote:
January 14, 2004 - Last night Nintendo Japan revealed its intentions to release the Famicom Mini series, a collection of classic games for the Famicom (the Japanese equivalent of the Nintendo Entertainment System) converted for play on the Game Boy Advance system.

Nintendo announced ten games in the series for launch on February 14th, including Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, Ice Climbers, Excite Bike, and The Legend of Zelda, as well as third party games Bomberman and Star Soldier from Hudson, and Pac-Man, Mappy, and Xevious from Namco. Each game will be individually packaged, one game per cartridge, for 2,000 yen apiece.
These games will be packaged in special, collectable "mini boxes" that represent the artwork of the original box-art from the Famicom version

The cartridges will also be pressed in a unique Famicom color-scheme that mirrors the Famicom Edition Game Boy Advance SP system, also set for release in Japan on February 14th.

Nintendo of America has not announced any plans for a North American equivelant to the Famicom Mini series. But at nearly $20 a pop, it might not fly in the US as is.

It looks cool and it's a helluva lot easier then using the E-reader(which some of these games are already available at $4 a piece.)

Yeah, I could easily get my hands on a NES emulator for the gba and play a LOT of NES games on one single cart. heh, really when you think about it Nintendo is just doing the same and selling us the rom and a nes emulator on single cart. Screw them

but these are cheap ports too, fans like me will want them

even tho I own all of these from the oringals anyways

but you can't play them anywhere you want like you could now

if they release over here I will probably buy them

I hope for lots more games in this series

I dunno man, I just can't see myself paying 20 bucks for the NES Super Mario Bros.

Heh, not with me. Not when there are other options out there.

Though don't get me wrong, I love the game and the nostalgic value it has

also don't forget that their prices are higher for videogames and dvds, etc

over here they might be like 10-15 dollars each CDN or even cheaper in the states

Or, they could bundle about 5-10 games together and sell it for $5-10. That would sell pretty good.
