new PC for next Gen. 3D game(DOOM 3)?
I need to get a new PC for the next generation of 3D games (for example: DOOM 3).
What should i get? This is the list of items i can think of now: P4 3.0 Ghz Asus Motherborad - I am a Asus fan but do give me some suggestion. 1GB / 512mb RAM - DDR 400mHz or Rambus? 120 GB Hard drive - Serial-ATA? GeForce FX 128Mb - any opinion? Sound Blaster Audigy-2 6.1 DVD ROM CDRW - no need for DVDRW, right?

Sounds like the computer I want to build save for I don't want any CD writing stuff, I have a laptop for that.
The only change I would make is I would get a ATI Graphics Card, why? Well Doom 3 AND Half-Life 2 are swearing by the newer ATI cards so you know you can't go wrong with them. Also I remember a news article that said that the new GeForce cards just weren't putting out the power of course right now theres nothing really until DOOM3 or Half-Life 2 that will take advantage of the latest hardware.

sound like nVidia is going down since XBox2 will be using ATI...
the only bad thing i heard about ATI is ATI doesn't update video card driver as often as nVidia. Is that true?

Actually, the Xbox2 didn't catch on to the ATI craze until after ID and Valve swore by their cards to help make their games. the GeForce FX is a very flashy looking card, but thats about all I've heard thats good about it, it's an upgrade from the GeForce 4 and all but if your going to dish out that kind of money for a card, go with one of the latest ATI cards, or if you want to save some money, those prices on the older ATIs will be droping once the new cards come out.

ATI have gotten alot better at releasing drivers. I'm not sure why you'd want a P4 though cause they are ultra expensive and AMD is much better. Though if you want more info then go and have a look through the other thread in this section where Spacemanspiff is asking about upgrades. Alot of info in there you should find interesting.
