Final Fantasy XI PC Requirements Announced

Quote:
PKFC writes "Square has begun taking applications for the Final Fantasy XI PC Beta test which starts on June 18 in Japan. The minimum specs are: Win 98, PIII 800 MHz, 128 MB RAM, a GeForce card and 4.5 GB of hard drive space, while the recommended specs include a 64 MB video card and a Pentium 4. The 4.5 GB is used for game data, the PlayOnline software and the ever popular, Tetramaster. The PC version will be fully compatible with the PlayStation2 version allowing people on either system to play together."

What is the minimum requirement for a typical PC game these days?

The req seems rather high for me! I am only using a Celeron 433MHz with a 32MB GeForce MX400, but I have 100GB disk space. Are you sure this is the minimum, not the "recommended" requirement?

You'll be fine Pikachu. You'll just have to whack down some of the effects. And how come you're splurging on a 100gig HD and not updating other parts of your PC?

My guess is the 4.5gig is mostly used for some silly CG stuff. I could be wrong. But I dont see why we would bother with the PC beta. The english versions wont be out till mid next year. How we supposed to play it in japanese? I see no point.

That means not even the Xbox can handle the game!? Xbox is only a PIII 733 MHz.

You can't really compare console hardware straight to PC hardware. They're both set up differently.

I wouldn't say that Square hates Xbox. If it was selling a lot better in Japan, and was prepared for online. Then there may have been a chance for Xbox to get a port.

...And I doubt that they ever planned a Mac version of FFXI.

the xbox is very capable of running this game ... it dosent have to deal with all the O/S overhang that a PC has

If you have a Geforce2 MX 400, then it's 64 MB. Only Geforce 2 MX & 200 have 32 MB. As far as the game requirement concerned, the graphic card is the one that matters most. Even if you have a P4 2000MHz but with an integrated graphic card, you can't play any 3D game at all. Simply, it can't handle the game.

I believe the Xbox is capable of playing FFXI. However, the chance Square'd release FFXI on it is rare.

What kind of graphical improvements you get from DOOM 3 comparing to the current and upcoming FPS?
