Some reports from the NET indicates that Zelda sales are through the roof, close to a million copies after a few days. Also Gamecube system sales have skyrocketed, some people say that almost 350 000 system have been sold so far in March.
If these reports are true the you think Zelda have saved the Gamecube, is it just a short lived fad, or is it already to late. What do you think? I cant confirm above stated sales number it is pretty much just a rumor sweeping the net and it's forums right now.

it might be a little early to tell the impact on the american market (and especially in europe)
but i think a different question is, does the gamecube need saving? most people seem to be getting one for the stellar nintendo games which there are and certainly if you only owned a gc you would want a larger installed base to lure some of the great games that have head to ps2exclusive land or at least get games without month delays whatever happens, i think nintendo can (as some might say it does now) survive as a niche 2nd place console that produces some games with exceptionally high values i think most anyone who is not completely hardheaded or blinded by their devotion to an xbox or ps2 would enjoy zelda because it is made that well and while not everyone can afford another system or more games, its a shame for anyone would purposefully avoids playing a great game because it came out on a so-called "inferior" console

Hmmm...that's neat to see. Though I ask when did the GCN need saving?

There's nothing like a Zelda launch to boost system sales.

It's like plastic surgery. I didn't need a boobjob, a nosejob or a tummy tuck, but it sure did need a small face lift to keep it up to speed.
Wow, that sounded fruity. I'm a male. |

Saved in the sense that third party developers continueously relesases must have titles for the system.
The more sales the greater titles and more support. Som low key titles were started to get cancelled which upon next step would be the big games. The longetivity of the console also of course furthers improves with big sales.

I say heck yeah Zelda is saving Nintendo's console sector. As good a Metroid Prime was... Wind Waker blows it away... and for it to not be selling like it is it would take a epidemic of idiotcy .

Discounted prices of GC are the cause of the increased sales in Europe.
But as I recall, wasn't the problem that Gamecube players were only buying Nintendo games and not 3rd party games? And the Gamecube doesn't need saving.

gamecube is $120 (excluding platinum cube) dollars and comes with a free game where i'm at. zelda is also out and you can still get the free bonus game if you look hard enough. you'd have to be a little nutty not to pick one up at this point.

3DO is even worst. Acclaim used to be decent when the N64 was around, games like Turok 2 kicks asses.

Keywords being "used to..."
3DO might turn themselves around with their new something or other-Apocalypse-something game... they seem to be putting a lot of effort into it (Plus they still make my favorite fantasy strategy series.. Heroes of Might and Magic) They just need to stop making crap Army Men games... Acclaim? Eh... I've heard that the latest Mortal Kombat was a step in the right direction... but... then they went and released BMX XXX..
