The Kahoku Online Network is reporting that Hiroshi Yamauchi, president of Nintendo for more than half a century and the man largely responsible for bringing them to a position of dominance in the gaming industry, is stepping down from his position effective next Friday. According to the report, Yamauchi will be succeeded by Satoru Iwata, head of corporate planning for NCL.

I have always been waiting for this moment for the last few years to hear Yamauchi announced his retirement. Its really all shocking as of late because we havent' heard much of him in the past few months and now he came out of nowhere and declared his official retirement.

I think he should start to look for another hot developer, like Shirmuagshi..... (you know who I'm talking about, the guy who made Mario and Donkey Kong and Zelda and half of Nintendo's games) He's pretty old now, I think in his 60's, so they still need a hot devloper after he retires. They need to start thinking about the future so they can stay in the lead.

Nintendo will be fine as long as they have Shigeru Miyamoto. He is the guy that made Mario, Donkey Kong, and Zelda.

Yamauchi, if I remember correctly, was the one who struck up the new deal with Square.

It is still a mystery on why Yamauchi used the fundQ to help out Square. I thought he hated Square to the bones when they announced Final Fantasy 7 for PSX several years ago.
