It sounds like something new is in the works? Maybe a sequel?

NieR: Automata 1st Anniversary live stream set for March 3 to 4

Details to be announced on February 26.

NieR: Automata turned one years old today. It first launched for PlayStation 4 in Japan on February 22, 2017. To celebrate its first anniversary, Square Enix will run a continuous Niconico live stream from March 3 to 4, Square Enix announced.

Further details will be announced on February 26.

NieR: Automata is available now worldwide for PlayStation 4 and PC.

I believe they already said they were interested in producing more games about the franchise. Could be many things like a new dlc, another drakengard, a sequel or god forbids a mobile game.

Never really liked the orginal Nier so they need to keep Platinum as the developer for me. Otherwise I wouldn't be as interested.

I loed the original and i know i will love automata but i haven't gotten to it on my backlog yet.

For the sequal, the develop is garanteed to be platinum. It was a sucessful relationship for both platinum and squeenix.

I'm glad that in a world where many great RPG franchises are dormant Nier managed to rise against expectations.
