The Game Awards 2018 teases “biggest lineup ever in terms of new game announcements”

The Game Awards 2018 teases “biggest lineup ever in terms of new game announcements”

Nominees to be announced on November 13.

The Game Awards 2018 will feature the “biggest lineup ever in terms of new game announcements,” producer Geoff Keighley said both in a tweet and in a VentureBeat interview.

“Most of the major publishers will be sharing news on what they’re doing in the future,” Keighley said. “It’s a big event for the industry. I’m really proud that we have so many companies on the same stage, putting competition aside to share a first look at where games are going in 2019 and beyond.”

Keighley added that, “as far as specific content that’s going to be at the show, we’re not talking about that yet. As we get close to show we’ll share some things, although honestly we won’t talk about what are in effect surprises for the show.”

According to Keighley, there were “a lot of games that wanted slots to be part of the show and share new content,” and that in addition to new game announcements, “we also have a lot of ongoing games,” like last year’s reveal of the “Miramar” map in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Keighley said, “People keep playing games as services, and they’ll have updates around new content and features that may get revealed at the show. Maybe it’s not a new game announcement, but it’s something that will matter to a massive player base around the world. That’s new and evolving.”

While not shared by Keighley during the interview, Wizards of the Coast confirmed that it will share information regarding “the future of competitive Magic gaming” at The Game Awards 2018.

The Game Awards 2018 will air on December 6 at 5:30 p.m. PT / 8:30 p.m. ET from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles across 40 networks, including YouTube in 4K resolution, Twitter, Facebook, Mixer, Steam TV, PlayStation 4, Xbox Live, IGN, GameSpot, Polygon, MLG,, and more to be announced.

Internationally, The Game Awards 2018 will air live with translation across the following platforms:
  • China: Tencent QQ, EgameQQ, DouYu, Panda TV, BilliBili, Huya, NimoTV, Huomao, Longzhu, Wegame, iQIYI, G-Cores, Quanmin,
  • Southeast Asia: Bigo Live, Tamago

  • Korea: AfreecaTV, KakaoTV, Naver
  • Germany: RocketBeans
  • Japan: NicoNico, OpenRec
  • Brazil: CubeTV, StreamCraft, UOL Jogos

Nominees will be announced on November 13 at 9:00 a.m. PT / 12:00 p.m. ET on the award show’s official website. Users will be able to vote via the website, as well as via various platforms including social media, Alexa Voice, Google Assistant, and the for the first time ever, Discord.

In related news, The Game Awards 2018 has appointed Tencent’s interactive entertainment division senior vice president Steven Ma to its advisory board, which helps guide and advance the show’s objective. The advisory board also includes executives from Activision, AMD, Electronic Arts, Microsoft, Nintendo of America, Rockstar Games, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Ubisoft, Valve, and Warner Bros. Honestly, i think it's mostly just talk.

At this point in the gen, studios are hard at work preparing next gen and won't have much to show yet.

I don't expect any big reveals when Sony still has to release TLOU2, ghost of tsushima and Death stranding.
Microsoft just aquired a bunch of studios, so theres nothing to show from those yet. They also just had their own event.

Just leaves Nintendo, who might have something to show, but most shells were used last year for the launch of the Switch.

Aka i'm not expecting anything big, unless it comes from Japan because they are usually fashionably late to the new gens.
