Yeah, I wanna see how that shakes out. However, since I'm no longer planning on getting a laptop with a dedicated gaming card, I'm not really keen on paying around a grand for it, which is what I expect the Surface with W8Pro to go for.
But I will still wait and see how that goes. And hopefully get to try it out at something like Best Buy.

My short answer: No.
You cant upgrade them and they tend to overheat.

I know what MS has publicly stated. Like I said, I'm going to wait and see since I don't plan on purchasing one until later in the year. By then, I'll know more.

It's not exactly going to be slacking in the graphical department, the Pro version definitely isn't weak from what we already know and is competitive with Ultrabooks rather than tablets, and so a lot of our Steam and GOG games should work fine on it. So it's already launching with a stronger line-up of games than anything else on the market.
![]() I wouldn't buy it for Gaming, obviously. That'd just be a perk.

Fellow member of MB SuperAngelo64 recently bought Alienware gaming laptop that he use for game like Phantasy Star Online 2, Tera , and some Wii emulation. Unfortunately I forgot the type and spec of it. He told us at FB chat a while ago.
I'll ask him again later.

Someone needs a nap! I'm not throwing money at MS, I'm just saying that by the time I am ready to buy, there will be more info on the Surface so I'll be interested and seeing what that new info is.

I was thinking about getting one of these.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-Sate...0821219&sr=8-1 seems pretty good value. |

Very good value. You'll have no problem at least running every game out right now with that, as long as you're not expecting max graphics or anything. The high-end games like Witcher 2 and BF3 would need be be pretty much on minimum to get decent framerate with, but you'd be spending more than double that price to achieve that.
But only if you'll actually be going out with it. A desktop is still the better choice, but if the heart is set on a gaming laptop then, bang for buck, that's a pretty good deal. Toshiba laptops are always nice and reliable too.

Scroll to the bottom to see what performance it should give you during specific games
http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Rad...M.69483.0.html Its not too bad. Rule of thumb being anything under 35 is a bit icky. Its also a shame its an ATI card in there. All the physX effects are gone in games with this. If you're FORCED by circumstances to need a gaming laptop then its fine. If you're just choosing it for the sake fo portability and little else, seriously rethink and get a desktop. |

Yeah I not that bothered about getting the best graphics games like Witcher 2/Battlefield 3 I'd just get for the consoles anyway. I'll mainly getting it to continue playing the adventure/point'n'click type games and the odd FPS' as my current laptop is starting to play up.

I dont understand that logic. I get you dont care about graphics, I mean clearly you're happy getting the console versions of awesome games. But this would be like waiting 2 years into the next console launch and then buying a 360. Or getting a Wii in a year or two instead of a WiiU. The more dated the laptop, the more sooner it'll be useless. Its not practical.
Ignore the laptop and buy a desktop instead. You could spend the same amount as that laptop and get a more powerful system. Spending the same amount of money for better performance and longevity. I mean to me it makes sense. The games are also cheaper on the pc. Plus with sales that happen every day and also the massive awesome steam sales during holiday periods, like one coming in a couple weeks, you could buy 20 games you'd be interested in playing for the price of like 4-5 console games. |

Thats fine, play all your multiplatform games on the lower powered consoles, for whatever magic reason. I play my exclusive console games on my consoles. But spending money on a laptop that would cost more then a desktop with similar parts, thats the part thats dodgy. Dont need to be a gamer to get that part.
