Half Life 3

http://www.black-aperture.com/

It’s registered with Network Solutions like Valve’s official sites (like steampowered.com), but they’re not using Valve’s DNS servers (ns1.valvesoftware.com), instead using domaincontrol.com, which is GoDaddy’s name servers.
So either this is an unofficial fake or Valve is covering their tracks by using GoDaddy to host instead of their own servers.

I wouldn't have even posted this thread if I'd seen that^ first, oh well.

As long as it resolves the cliffhanger I'll be happy.

Sweet year-end teaser. And a harsh one if it's a fake.

It'll just be updated Source. Valve's mentality is to not update till they need to. Like L4D2 got released because they couldn't do what they wanted with the first game. So I can't see us getting a new engine till next generation when Source becomes really out-dated.

It's so mod-friendly, I wouldn't call it as out-dated as COD's engine since that just looks like shit full stop. Source doesn't look as good so that it's easily modded.

nothing wrong with source IMO, it's not like it looks bad or anything.

Tis true. Though half life is their flagship title. So a new engine would just be fitting if it actually was 3. It'll eventually get to the point where updating the engine itself to work with newer technologies will result in less than what could be phenomenal results.

Look at CS:GO, that game looks great. Source has been improving with each title, they're not sitting on their arses and doing nothing with it like some devs. Source 2 isn't needed till next-gen, when hopefully all games will be Battlefield 3/Witcher 2 levels of awesome.

To me it looks at graphic fidelity is at a point where the median is rather high, although source is old maybe with an updated aesthetic can add some more years to the game. Never know.

CS:GO wasn't as much of a graphical leap as i'd have hoped. Though in comparison to CS:Source it does make you realise how old that game is haha.

But graphics really do enhance the gameplay experience.

I remember when the Half-Life 2 source tech demo was first shown off. That was impressive and way ahead of its competition for its time.

Considering what modders have done with the engine, I'm pretty sure the devs, not SHIT ones, would be able to get much more out of the engine.
