The Binding of Isaac

from the creators of Super Meat Boy, as that was a take on Super Mario, this game is a take on the old-school Zelda games

random dungeons, multiple characters

and if you die, you start from the beginning - fun!

I didn't care much for Super Meat Boy. This one while it's a take on Zelda. It looks more of survival game then having the other elements from a Zelda game.

Don't knock it till you've tried it, the game is so much fun. Really challenging too, which is rare in a game nowadays, but I guess keeping with how much of a bitch Super Meat Boy got in later stages of the game.

Very fun and well worth the current price.

you can try it now: demo is up on newgrounds

Quote:
Featuring two levels, eight bosses, and 60+ items, the demo is a good glimpse at how the full game handles and should tell you whether or not this is your jam. According to Edmund McMillen, sales of Isaac are currently rivaling Super Meat Boy's release numbers.

As for what's next, expect a free Halloween update that introduces 20+ new items, three new bosses, another playable character, more achievements, and a "final chapter," which "should be a much bigger challenge." Until then, more bug fixes should continue making the rounds.

The Binding of Isaac: Unholy Edition is a DRM-free PC and Mac version that includes a free Steam gift key, the full soundtrack, a poster and a 40-page art book. Developed by Edmund McMillen of Super Meat Boy's Team Meat, The Binding of Isaac premiered on Steam in September along with an adorable plush from the Team Meat Shop on Etsy.

If you don't yet know why that darling doll is crying, go ahead and pick up The Binding of Isaac on Steam for $5, or wait for the Unholy Edition to launch at an unknown price. Or you can just listen to this song, whose recurring line is "To the basement, people, to the basement / Many surprises await you / In the basement, people, in the basement / You hid there last time, you know we're gonna find you."

I can't wait for the DLC of the game. which will have ongoing items that you keep instead of always trying to find them. It sucks when you only get shit items!

Looks pretty cool, but I wonder if fighting in a box gets boring after a while.

I thought the same way, but with all the stuff they have to unlock, you get hooked playing it. For the price, it's pretty decent. You just have to like old style Zelda games.

So I downloaded the game today, played it for about an hour. This game is dark- in it's humor, enemy design and story. Great music and sound effects. I really like it. One question though- am I just collecting items? Because of the random dungeon generation, you don't save your progress, you just die and then "restart". There is no feeling of progress, except you keep the items you find. I'll have to check out the forums.

Also, had a bitch of a time with the controls, I'm not used to pc controls with shooters, so my coordination is a little rusty. I actually downloaded Joykey and tried to get my pc xbox controller working with the game, but couldn't make it work properly.

Anyway, really nice game design, I'm liking it so far.
