Is my hard drive dying?

does this mean i "have" to change hard drives?
or is there another way to fix this?

if so... how do i back up my steam save games?

To check if your hdd really is dodgy just run the seagate tools like it says. It'll do a scan and tell you if you have bad sectors. Steam game saves are usually in your documents folder. Some games use cloud too so its on another server. If your hdd is dying its pretty easy to replace since they're so cheap. You can try doing a massive image of your hdd and paste it onto the new one if you like. Or just go and reinstall windows fresh since windows like fresh every year or so.

Yeah, Steam game save files if saved locally are pretty much always just in My Documents. There'll be a folder for each game.

Seagate HDDs are like my religion. I've never strayed.

seagate drives have been dodgy lately, I bought one before and it fucked up after a while and got bad sectors all over it and destroyed most of my files. So after that I went to Western Digital and this drive is great, it's actually loading things faster also and their Green Drives really really great also.

No I don't, I much prefer nVidia.

No make of HDDs are totally 100% reliable anyway; I had a Western Digital drive break on me, losing a lot of important stuff. Switched to Seagate and have had nothing but smooth sailing from then. I know a lot of people love WD but because that one drive broke on me, I wouldn't use them again. So I don't blame you from staying away from Seagate now, but I've never had any problems with them.

Lol, yeah. Well it'll have probably been AMD since I've got an AMD processor, but I've never had anything but nVidia graphic cards. I'll be migrating to Intel my next PC build though.

I'm loving my geforce 560 right now. Great card, doesn't overheat at all, even playing graphic heavy games, the temp ever rises over 56 C. The lowest it goes is 21C during idle which is way lower than the older 3870 radeon I had.

It's worth it to get the cards that have extra cooling on it.

I'm probably going to go higher than a 560 my next build; want an all new PC really. I've got a 460 right now, and, I don't think the performance difference between the two constitutes any worthwhile update. So I'll build a new PC, throw in my 460 for a while till I can get something else. I'd love to go for something ridiculous like a 590 but... not sure. 590 seems like overkill when all I play is Counter-Strike and L4D.

my first drive was a seagate...died after 1 year or so w/ bad sectors, et al. after that i also went for a western digital drive (750gb) and it's been fine for 3-4 years now.
