XBL update makes older 360s not read discs anymore!
Which means the rumor of a new "Disc format" could be real.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/18/s...omp-owners-wi/ If you are one of those problem 360 users, MS will give you a new Slim 360 with a 250 gig HDD FOR FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Sweet deal if you ask me. I might go buy one from a used store for 50 bucks and see if the update makes it not work anymore.

If I snap my Xbox in half and take it to Microsoft saying it won't read discs anymore, think I could get myself one of those Slim 360s?

I think it is. I couldn't tell you since I don't own a 360 but people are complaining about it.

I just turned mine on and it didn't request that I update it. However I did update it about 4 weeks or so ago. Was that the update? I haven't turned the thing on for many, many months before that so I have no idea when that update was issued.

I believe the update is still in beta. I'm in the beta, actually. Most people's 360s will work fine with the new disc format (which adds 1 GB of usable space to discs while strengthening anti-piracy measures), but it's rad that Microsoft will hook up the people who have problems.

Never have I wished for my Xbox 360 to be broken as much as now. Ever since I had it, I've been doing my best to make sure it doesn't break. The most effective method I found was to never use it, ever. That's the only way to be sure it works. I'm going to upgrade tomorrow and if it loads a game I will be pissed!
By the way, have you beta guys tried the new bigger discs or just the update itself? |

So how will I know if my Xbox is broken? Will it not work with ANY discs, or just the newfangled discs?
