How can 3D TV succeed when viewers need glasses?
As I was looking at TVs, I took the time to experience 3D TVs. But I don't get it...in order to see the picture in 3D, you need glasses. So...pretty much that means that you'll probably only get a couple of glasses, being that they cost a hundred or so each. If you have more watchers than glasses, they are shit out of luck or you just watch regular TV. Just doesn't seem like people will get behind 3D TV so long as you need to have glasses to watch.
I'm not someone who just poo-poos on new technology. I loved it when we upped resolutions and laughed back then when people told me that they couldn't tell the difference between standard and high definition. But 3D TV just seems to be limited in their practicality so long as glasses are involved.

I would never bother with these TVs since I already know they're making ones that don't require the glasses and they look better also.

Yeah its true, they are making ones that wont need glasses. But thats still some years away from being affordable and even in stores. The glasses thing really isnt that much of a problem. Usually the tv comes with 2 free ones. Also wearing the glasses is no different to wearing sunglasses or normal glasses. People dont seem to complain about those.

yea it'll be years before glasses-free 3dtvs match current 3dtvs.. and i don't see how they're going to fix the viewing angle problems associated with that tech.

Well with any kind of newer technology the people who can afford to buy it will, and over time time the price will go down.
As far as having to wear glasses to view it, I honestly don't see it as that big of a problem in both having to wear them and the number of glasses you get. When someone is going to buy the tv they'll tell them how many glasses will come with it and how much extras will cost. Besides, tv-watching isn't as "traditional" as it used to be where the family gathers around for tv time, so a whole set of glasses for the family probably isn't required. But yeah, once the tech is fully out and function where you don't need glasses the tv's they will be expensive at first, but as I said over time the price will go down and you won't have to worry about buy extra pairs of glasses for it.

I don't see 3DTV really catching on. Something big would need to happen to push it and I feel it could be games. Games consoles massivly pushed HDTV's. I would say more than SkyHD etc but I could be wrong. In fact even now I tend to watch things in standard definition. Only big budget effect action movies (Which have a similarity with games if you think about it) really make it worth it. 3DTV needs a killer app and I question if it will really happen. Let's remember 3DTV has been around for like 40 years. Not in its current form but in one form or another.

3DTVs will become big when the next generation of consoles completely supports them and as more 3D Blu-Rays become available (they're still quite scarce).
