Magic the Gathering on Steam!

Kotaku reports that Magic: The Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers (the XBLA game) is coming to Steam with Steam Achievements & online play, for $10. It's not available for preorder yet though. The XBLA game is easy to play and quite fun.

I never really got into playing Magic, but I used to watch a bunch of friends playing it like 15 years back. It really does have a lot of depth to it. Looks like a great game. But buying so many card packs and trying to remember so many attack combinations etc, its a little overwhelming and pricey. Put this in front of a pokemon fan and watch their brains implode lolololol

Well, thankfully the way this game works is you get a bunch of decks with the main game, and then they release expansions every now and then that include a bunch of new decks. There are 2 XBLA expansions so far, and the first of those will be included free with the Steam edition. So this game is less about collecting cards and more about learning each deck's ins and outs and competing against others.

If I knew others who played, I'd try and get into it. But it's not very big round where I am.

Hey, try Pokemon Card game then complain. May not be too complicated but one of the best card games ever made. Even better than the real thing.

I am going to buy the game one day. There, you got someone to play with. I think there was a thread for it here in the forums. Try checking it, several of players are there. At least two exist I think. Good enough in my opinion.

OH! I thought it was like... you know what, it doesn't matter.

I shall buy this whenever it comes out. The price Kotaku posted seems cheap.

I saw the new expantion on xbox live recently. Wanted it but didn't get it. Just too much to play right now. As far as problems go though that one's pretty good.

No. Provided it plays the same as the xblive version then each deck has about a dozen or so cards that can be unlocked by winning with the decks. The unlocked cards can be slipped in and out but the main deck can not be edited.

I don't mind the premade decks personally. You get a sense of balance that you don't get from the regular game.

I'm allready invested in the 360 version so I'll be skipping.

Aww, I have it on 360 but I'm getting the Steam version day one for sure. Alucard, you need to join us! I'm sure your ancient laptop can play it.

I'm on the fence at the moment. I never got to learn how to play it and the game will take ages for me to figure out.

I play in real life but I don't have much interest in the digital version.
