College Students Get Windows 7 For $30

The deal page isn't live yet, but this one's Twitter official: Windows 7 will be just $30 for US college students. Full details are expected any minute, but for now, there's just a placeholder. UPDATED: It's up.

The conditions of the deal, which just went live, are as simple as can be: If you're an active student at an American university, or you at least have a working email address from a university (thanks, my old college!), you're entitled to a $30 price for Windows 7 Home Premium (update: or Pro!), which is normally at least $120. Best of all, the offer's good until January 3rd, so you've got plenty of time to bag a license, brah.

Offer Deal-Click Buy Square

From the Discussion Thread:
09/17/09

NOTE: If you want Windows 7 Professional look for this when you follow the link in the e-mail..."Need to join your school's network domain? Click here"

Click and you'll be able to order Professional instead of Home Premium at the same price
Pretty good deal. Glad I held onto my old University Email. Looks like I'll be getting Pro for $30!

So why is everyone rushing to get this at launch?

Cause they probably are tired of using a 10 year old OS.

Holy crap awesome.

Between the MSDN access I get through my school and this promotion, my old school offers me 3 licensees to Win 7!

Good point. I've been hesitating to upgrade to any new Windows OS at launch as I usually like to wait until SP1. But I've heard a lot of good things about 7. I'm thinking of taking a leap of faith and going in without a condom on this one. I better not get an STD, Microsoft, I'm trusting you!

Microsoft's marketing for Windows 7 may be the best I've ever seen for one of its OSes.

Yeah it's so good I know absolutely nothing about it. All I know if from 10 seconds of a YouTube video I watched this morning.

It should be $30 for everyone, just like Apple's new OS.

You really know absolutely nothing about it? You must not pay attention to anything your friends or internet peers say, because people have had the OS for months now and have talked about it a lot.

Marketing isn't just what you see in ads. They have pushed this thing with the open beta and release candidate (which was available to anybody), and now they're offering it cheap for Vista upgraders and college students. They wanted to get it into the public's hands so they can see for themselves how good it is. They've already done a substantial effort that I didn't see with Vista or XP. Personally, this is the first MS OS I will legitimately own, and I can firmly say that's a direct result of the RC and the price promotion.

I knew a bunch of people owned it for months now and they sold it themselves to other people, but they just said it was better, but I never knew what exactly is better about it.
