Empire: Total War new screens and info

Quote:
- Recruit units on general

- Not religion, but political freedom

- Mughals of India are in!

- new engine

- set in 1700 to the early 1800’s

- Real-Time 3D Naval Warfare

- weapons will jam and misfire, cannons will seize up and explode

- Bagpipes, drummers, flautists and trumpeters will fill the air with play out over the crack of musket fire

- reduced importance of siege battles

- formations will play importance

- Overwrite of fire use

- Hide in buildings

- Campaign map - No longer tiled

- Peter the great of russia and Charles of sweeden

- The game spans from 1700 to 1800

- The campaign map will be larger. It includes Europe, North and South America, North Africa, Central Asia, India, and Indonesia
- You will be able to build colonies. It will make a difference, whether you settle in the wilderness of the Americas, or whether you can use preexisting infrastructure in India.

- All infrastructure built within a province, will be represented on the Strategic Map. You can upgrade buildings, by clicking on them on the Strageic Map. There will still be a capital though.

- Enemy armies can plunder or conquer buildings within provinces.

- Revolutions can happen, leading to the separation of countries. (As an example, a rebellion of the Scotts was given).

- You can change the form of government between: absolute monarchy, constituional monarchy, and Republic. This will directly influence how you can deal with revolts and how fast you develop new technologies. Other factions will treat you according to your form of government.

- Taxes can be set seperately for Nobles, Burghers, and Peasants.

- The AI system will be reworked and improved. An example given is that the AI will be unified, meaning that no longer the military AI will try to conquer a territory, while the diplomatic AI is working towards an alliance with the owner of said territory.

- Diplomats, Spies and Assassins will no longer be represented on the map. A new system will be introduced.

- Historical Generals can appear.

- The mercenary system will be reworked. While you can still hire mercenaries they won't be incorporated into your regular army. How this works out exactly is not clear yet.

- Infantry can occupy buldings. They will automatically take up defensive positions and fire out of windows/doors.

- Naval warfare will be included. Each side will be able to command up to 20 ships within one battle.

- Wind will play an important role in the battles. You can set the sails of your ship according to your desired speed. You can choose between three types of ammunition, damaging hull, sails, or crew respectively.

- Multiplayer battles are supposed to be improved. A ladder will be implemented.
omg.

Why not? It's something new and interesting.

It looks bloody awesome, I'm not a big fan of the faces .. they could use some work but thats pretty minor.. The game itself looks and sounds fan-fucking-tastic.

(The GRASS looks epic!)

As long as they make the guns work (I hated the archers on the other games), otherwise, I'm a hardcore Total War fan.

Oh god damnit, they're doing a fucking Age of Empires 3 bullshit. Not happy with this move. Everyones got guns and its boring. Tactics becoming a useless ranged combat where as before you had so many different kidns of troops. Boring boring civil war period. I'll be ignoring this one.

GOD DAMN!
They will continue to butcher this series.

Let me guess. My Commander will fire his pistol, and it will back-fire, kill him, and cause my entire army to retreat. AGGGGGGGGGGGHhhhhhhhhh.

Realism in games is so pointless.

Yeah....someone doesn't know much on combat. They are freaking muskets, there is a reason they had rows of men to fire them, and knives on the end of the rifles. Not many bullets get fired from a musket. There is always strategy to war and battle, and be it ranged or not, if done right the game will always have a strong strategical backing. I'd love to see a WWI total war game. Trench warfare at its best!

The british had multiple lines. The first one would fire then the second line fired and they moved to the back and reloaded usually resulting in them being charged or shot in their damn backs.

Really easy to flank musketeers. Just look at how the revolutionaries won the Revolutionary war against the British, gorilla tactics.
