LG unwraps slick Blu-ray, HD DVD player
CES 2007 LG today unveiled the dual-format HD DVD, Blu-ray Disc player that garnered it so many headlines last week. Dubbed the Super Multi Blue Player - aka the BH100 - it's due to go on sale later this quarter, the company said. So will a version for PCs.
The BH100 supports 1080p playback through HDMI, component- and composite-video outputs. It supports all the usual codec and multi-channel audio trademarks. No surprises there, but the BH100 does have one other interesting feature: Chocolate-inspired backlit touch-sensitive controls. The PC-oriented dual-format drive is the GGW-H10N. Like the BH100, it's due for a Q1 release. While it supports all the DVD and CD recordable and re-writeable formats, along with BD-R and BD-RE, it's read-only as far as HD DVD goes, and we understand the player won't support some of the HD DVD format's online interactivity features http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/01...ls_multi-blue/

I was reading that Warner Brothers might produce a CD that has HD-DVD on one side and Blue Ray on the other. That way consumers do not have to choose the can have it all.

LOL, basically what the chocolate thing means is the entire backlight display is ghosted in a way; it appears black until you touch w/e button, or input a command to the player's remote, after that input the command appears on the unit's backlite and then goes away shortly after. If it's truely like the chocolate it should have some cool ambient features also when the player is on standby, so it isn't just a blank display all the time, sort of like what the chocolate does, the red light dims in and out. Nice little feature for electronics.
It makes it look much more clean and modern, but arguably useless on a disk player of any kind imo. as a phone the chocolate lacks balls. the camera and mp3 player are pretty weak and the phone lacks alot of software and firmware support. gimmicky and trendy phone. A good phone to get that is now a complete bargain is a sony ericson K750i. It is sick and since cell phone technology has slowed down a bit, even in asia (we were seeing 5-7 MP phones in proto and they just stopped over a year ago, 3.2 is the current max and sharp 903 had that over 2 years ago or more...BS). Looks awesome though if I was purchasing a high def player. All that loot for what boils down to be a amazing picture, plus the other features of it...but the details of HD dont really come out on my 34" TV unless i sit at least 4 feet, and for movies im going to get alot farther than 4 feet. |

So if the technology allows you to play both HD-DVDs and Blu-Ray, it is also assumed you'd pay more for this particular player than for a device that plays only one?

Actually...I just realized this was LG. Iwould stayaway. Forsome reason I wasn'tpaying attention to which brand it was. LGhad tonsof problems with their cheap-o DVD recorder. They are like Westinghouse is with TVs. Inexpensive but basically crap!
