DVD Rom fixit story

Actually this is pretty short. But I get to make fun at something so this is why I'm doing it. My friend was going to grab something onn a dvd he had backed something on. When he went to eject it the tray wouldnt pop out. You could hear something inside spinspinspinning. He was starting to stress. So I told him about the magical little hole at the front. If you stuck something inside it, like a paper clip for example, it would pop out the tray. So he did it. The tray opened and the disc almost SHOT out like a frisby, it was spinning so fast.

He took the dvd out and was all like w00t then he pushed the tray back in. The tray was loose, didnt want to go back in. He tried VALIANTLY but it was no use. It was like the tray was broken. He was pissed he SLAMMED it in, hoping this would fix it. Did it a few times. In the end I'm like lol just open it, lets have a look inside.

So we open it and what do I see inside? A little cog that had come lose somewhere and an elastic band. I'm thinking WTF this is 10 year old style innards, everything should be all gears and stuff, not this super cheap **** thats designed to go 'faulty' after a little. I ask him how old it is. He says its back in august so not that old. Then I ask him what brand it is because I dont see it labelled. And he says....Sony.

Its all clear now. I understand everything. Product designed to look like its 'broken' so you go and buy a new one. We found the place where the cog was meant to be and pushed it back onto the little spindle it was on, then connected the band between that and another gear. DVD drive works perfectly again.

Moral of the story.. Stop buying fucking Sony you idiots.

I wonder if Sony has ever managed to make one product that worked 100% as promised.

Reading that inspired this quick little drawing:

They're meant to break? Like Lightbulbs?

That's not half as funny as the story you told me about your college days.

...Oh dear, I've said too much. :x

Its common practice for large Japanese electronics manufacturers to design there goods to break after waranty is up. Sony gets investigated about this all the time, so do most of the other large brand names.

DS...I dont understand it. I feel I shouldnt ask because I'm already scared.

No way. Brands like Pioneer and Panasonic are sturdy as hell. Pure quality japanese brands they are. Not like Sony.

And angelo, they aint half as funny as those pics! OH YES!

Reminds me of my bud's laptop. Toshiba, pretty similar satellite model to what i have. His was a lap scortcher. I mean, really bad. Mine got hot but his would get so hot it would crash. Nothing would work thru tech support. They asked my friend to ship it in, he got it back and it would do the same thing.

So what'd we do? We cracked the damn thing open.

THE FAN WAS INSTALLED BACKWARDS. Let me pause. THE FAN WAS INSTALLED BACKWARDS..essentially sucking hot air into the system. Swear it was just a matter of flipping that crap around and the laptop never crashed again.

True story.
