Question about HDMI and X360's HDDVD addon

I heard that within HDMI there is something called "HCMI" that basically checks if your disc is legit (through drm?) and if it is it sends a signal to your HDTV and your HDTV displays as normal. But if your disc is pirated your HDTV will downgrade it to 480p. My question is how does the 360's hddvd addon accomplish this without HDMi cable? maybe another method through software?

It doesn't to my knowledge. I am defo not the person to ask. But there are some issues with HDMI, especially in earlier sets that have caused serious problems for certain people.
