9 More DX10 Cards in the Works

This should be pretty good. Come Febuary we should see the low end and the super high end compared to the 2 that are out at the moment. Will be alot easier to pick out which one will be the better price/performance for you. Especially since we SHOULD hear about the ATI cards before then since they plan to release them before april. So around febuary/march I'd guess.

Additionally, during the Q&A section of the investor call, Huang also alluded to the fact that the company would announce no less than nine DirectX 10 graphics cards based on the G80 family of GPUs. Two G80 products have already been announced, the GeForce 8800 GTX and GTS. Last week manufacturers filled DailyTech in on the possibility that another G80-derivative product is on the way in February of next year. In a private briefing, DailyTech was then updated to the fact that there are three distinct products launching in February, each of which will be divided into three sub-products. NVIDIA's public and private roadmaps appear to coincide.

In the first quarter of next year, ATI is expected to launch the R600 graphics core. ATI's roadmap previously indicated that the RS790 IGP core would compete with Intel's Bearlake IGP chipsets, but there has been no indication that this project still exists since the AMD takeover.

As long as I have DX8 I can play virtual Laguna Beach, and that's all that matters.

They're not as expensive as I'd thought they'd be.

nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS for $565 Cdn. I wonder if there are any performance reviews out yet?

BTW, now that DX10 cards are out, where is the big price drop in video cards?

We'll probably see them after Vista is out and more DX10 cards come. Right now there is still money to be made off them.

That's right. Forgot about Vista. I guess in order to run the features of a DX10 game you need Vista, DX10 and a compatable card.

lol no it wont. Thats a DX9 card. DX10 cards are completely different. Plus you need windows Vista to get full DX10 activated.

I'm so glad I waited. The more the merrier. I was thinking a single 8800GTX but there are some serious contenders.

From what I've been reading, people are saying two different things - some say it fits their standard ATX mid tower case and others state the opposite. Unfortunately, many of them don't declare which case they have and how they organized everything inside. So it is difficult to say. If you are prepping to build a new state-of-the-art PC, I would probably go for a full size case just to be on the safe side.

It was unanimous, though, that you will need a motherboard that is large enough for the card to fit comfortably; in particular, providing enough available PCI slots to house whatever additional hardware (soundcard) as well as suffecient airflow.

I recently built a decent PC but will probably upgrade again next year since Vista, PCIe 2.0, and Quad Core Processors will be available.
