Net Speed.

Ah the joys of Dail up. I tell ya, once your use to High Speed, its hard to use anything less. Sadly though my cable company wants $150 a month for using their high speed internet and TV programing. So I'm breaking away. I'm doing a DishNetwork deal for $20 a month which wil give me all the same channels. Trouble is I have to figure out a new way to get online.

So what I'm looking at is a offer by AT&T. For $35 a month they'll give me their fastest DSL package.

Downstream Speed: 3.0 to 6.0 Mbps
Upstream Speed: 384 to 608 Kbps

But I'll level with ya guys, I have no clue how good that really is. Can I online game (BF2) with these speeds ok?

Alright! Since all of you are looooooooosers. For those of you that have high speed internet, please go to a website that can test your net speeds and post them. that way I can do a comparison.

That is good package. trust me. I'd take that with a boner in a heart beat. My friend has the 1.5 mbps package and gets the advirtised download speed. (150kbs around) that should go around 300-600 depending on connection I assume.

The only companies that come to my house are Wirless that are expensive.

on is 200 install, 100 bucks a month for 1.5mbps/256mbps

the other one is 200 install 50 a month for 384kbs/128kbs.

OH NOES

I go to my friends house and He gets on Live and I get on CS:S and I don't notice much lag and neither does he when his playing Halo 2.

Your getting double his speed. Go for it.

Sounds alright then. Now I just got to figure out how the whole DSL modems work. Like if it goes through the phone lines or a coax cable. *googles*

Those are better than my cable speeds. If your latency is good you should be able to host pretty much any game with those speeds.

mbps (X) to KB/s (Y) formula

X * 1024 / 8 = Y

so 5 mbps = 640 KB/s

kb/s (X) to KB/s (Y)

X / 8 = Y

340 kb/s = 42.5 KB/s

Which those are my speeds. DSL tends to have some latency sometimes depending on how far you are away from the closest relay or whatever they call it. Otherwise with those speeds ya should be fine.

Do you're best to find out where it is. It makes a HUGE difference when it comes to dsl. I had cable back home and I was getting at best about 1.2 Mbps. However there was not many people in my area doing the heavy downloading that I was. I had road runner, though that means jack **** since the equipment they use varies from cable company to company.

Ah, Road Runner was my old internet set up. Some $55 a month in my area. It was that much or maybe even up to $70.
