Battle Royale to the US Remake

This was announced sometime in the summer. For those who didnt hear the news, they are remaking BR to the US. Neh.

The film takes place in futuristic Japan where the government has decided (in an effort to keep overpopulation down) to annually send a random group of 9th graders to a remote island stocked with numerous weapons and the directive that only the last boy/girl standing can return. Pretty brutal, huh? An American remake could only neuter the insanity of the original but producers have insisted the remake will push the limits of the R-rating. Neal Moritz (who's dropped some major stinkers like STEALTH, XXX2 and TORQUE on us lately) and Roy Lee (THE RING) will produce for New Line. With the rash of terrible Japan-to-American remakes, should we tamper with BATTLE ROYALE? Or as The Beatles once said, let it be? And why haven't we seen a filmed version of the 1988 Royal Rumble yet?

This will be horrible, but I'll end up seeing it anyway.

Despite the fact I really don't like this particular movie, I'm getting kind've bored of the US ruining Asian movies.

Fun book though. I just made a pamphlet about it for school. Terribly written, but a great premise!

The first movie was pretty good. The second movie however was a disaster. Have any of you heard anything about the infernal affairs "Localization"? That was a good movie.

I thought it was great, and extremely well paced, or fleshed out. Not sure I would say it was terribly written, but then again I suck at english

Has Battle Royale even been rerleased in America yet? It's not gonna be the same story so it won't really be a remake.

No, they wouldnt release it in America because they thought if they brought it down to an R rating, there would be nothing left. The scenes weren't that violent though, it was the fact that 9th graders were killing each other. America can't control their 4 year olds enough from shooting up schools.
