Reality's BIG BUILD.

Alright! So here is the deal. Reality, the Mac user in a glorified form, is going to build a gaming PC that pleases him. I been saving up for MONTHS to do this task and with Alucard's expert advice, patience, and love of all things PC, its time to get started.

The purpose of this thread is to, well, just for the fun of it. Its simply for progress and discussion oh how I'm doing this and with what parts. Who knows, one of you may learn something.

Day 1:
Bought a case just now. Check her out.

Specs:
All Aluminum Full Tower.
External 5.25" Drive Bays 9
Internal 3.5" Drive Bays 4
Expansion Slots 7
2 Front USB2.0
1 Front FireWire 400
1 Front Headphone Jack
1 Front Mic Jack
2 120mm Fans. One in the back, other up front.
4 fan slots on the door.
1 fan slot on the top.
Accommodates up to nine 120mm fans total.

Now this puppy retails for $260. Way out of my price range. So how did I get it? Ebay my friends. For $180 total I snagged one of these brand new. Thats about $30 more then I was wanting to spend on a case but I downgraded a few parts to make up the cost.

The case I was looking to get before this one was here. As you can see both total in the same cost when s/h is included so I practically made a $100/$150+ upgrade for free. There for I give this bargain buy a 9/10.

u know it would be a GREAT place to keep your money!

better than those fancy shmancy banks who loan your money to other people who claim that they need it

Excellent case! I own the original CM Stacker which was the best case they had before the new revision. I bought the extra 2 front bay 120mm coolers and the mobo cooler. It was worth the money. I overclock my x2 4200+ (2.2 to 2.8) on AIR! idle @ 32C and load @ 45C. This is with a 7800gtx and mushkin 3.5v redlines, which draws a lot of heat.

DAY 2

Got me some goodies today. Starting with the biggest essentials.

1. AMD 64 x2 4200 Processor.

64 bit
Dual-Core
2.2GHz
Heatsink and Fan

A couple months ago this baby would have costed over $200-$300+ easy. But the price has since gone down and I'm able to snag this beast for $181. Now when it comes to parts like this the prices will always go up and down depending on demand. I imagine in 2-3 more months this thing will be even lower then what I paid. The trick to part shopping is get the unit you want when your satisfied with the price and then never look back. So for getting this piece for $180 present day plus free shipping is a great deal. One I would rate a 7/10
------------------------------------------------------

2. OSZ Brand 2Gigs of RAM.

184-Pin DDR SDRAM
2GB (2 x 1GB)
DDR 400 (PC 3200)
Lifetime Warranty

As anyone knows the more ram you have the better. At lest till flash HDDs arrive. Until then though I wanted my system to have at lest 2 gigs worth of system pushing power. At first I was going to fork over $250 for CORSAIR branded Ram. But thats just a little much. So talking with Aulcard again we decided on OSZ alternative. This ram will be ever so slightly slower then the CORSAIR but its wont be enough to really matter to me. Especial since this Ram will only cost $189.99 WITH $18. mail in rebate. So in short I save around $60+ going with the OSZ brand plus another $13 in the rebate. After I pay for the S/H. SO I would give this bargain a nice 7/10
------------------------------------------------

3. Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro-SLI MotherBoard. (Cause fatherboards still wont fit..)

Number of DDR Slots: 4x 184pin DDR
DDR Standard: DDR 400 (PC 3200)
Maximum Memory Supported: 4GB
Dual Channel Supported: Yes
PCI Express x16: 2
PCI Express x1: 2
PCI Slots: 2
Audio Channels: 8 Channels
Max LAN Speed: 10/100/1000Mbps
PS/2: 2 (people still use these?)
COM: 1
LPT: 1
USB 4x USB 2.0
S/PDIF Out: 1x Coaxial
S/PDIF In: 1x Coaxial
Audio Ports: 6 Ports

Now this Motherboard doesn't very in price from store to store to much besides maybe $10 or so bucks. None the less I am cheep and so I used Pricewatch.com to find me the best deal. Thanks to its services I was able to get this board for $100.90. Thats 50cents cheaper then newegg! :yikes: Not much but every little bit counts. So for a bargain score this board gets a 2/10
-------------------------------------------------

4. Logitech MX518 Mouse.

Buttons: 8
Scrolling Capability 1x Wheel
Sensitivity adjustment to 1,600, 800, and 400-dpi resolution
Three-year warranty.

Every good gamer needs a good mouse. Here is the puppy Alucard suggested to me. After reading reviews she seems just right for all my needs. Normally this mouse will cost $45-60 but I went on ebay a snagged a sealed mouse for $35.00 total. That beats neweggs lowest market price of $44.98! Master Cheapo strikes again! Bargain score slides in at 5/10 for the much father 2 day shipping my auction sellers gives me.
