Sony "only want to deal with about five developers in the world" says Peter Molyneux
The following interview is taken from the Fairplay website, who are the guys campaigning to lower prices on games. Molyneux (game-designing god resposible for classics like Populous, Dungeon Keeper, Syndicate, Black and White) makes a couple of statements in the interview that, needless to say, have not pleased certain publisher and big companies.

Very interesting read! I didn't know that 70 developers folded this year alone and game publishers are losing that much money. Pretty bleak picture.

A while back (Hiroshi) Yamauchi was stating the same thing would happen, with the death of small developers and all... along with a few other things he mentioned. Not very surprisingly, he was right.
I'd also like to take the time here to say that Molyneux is among one of the most important people in gaming, and that Populous 2 is something everyone should play NOW. |

Pete's an insightful guy. I don't know about Sony only wanting "to deal with about five developers in the world," though, unless that means for their in-house projects and not licensing, because walk into any import shop, there's tons of software from no-name companies. In fact, they're the only one of the big three who has supported non-commercial hobbyists with the Yaroze and Linux kits (see origin of XI/Devil Dice).
Still, the gaming industry's a business like any other. I, too, woe the day when all we have to look forward to is the over-bloated star-driven crap like Hollywood feeds their audiences. Last edited by FumieHosokawa; 10-17-2002 at 01:38 PM. |
