Shocked shocker! new famitsu scores

i got this from newtechnix.com and apparently these are the scores...

Fatal Frame: 8 / 10 / 8 / 8 (34/40)
DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball: 10 / 9 / 10 / 10 (39/40)

to put things in perspective, the new zelda game got a score of 40/40. i'm not going to say too much until i get more confirmation on these numbers but isn't the score for doa volleyball a bit high?

I could have sworn DOAX was already rated and got something like a 32.

Possible explanation: I hear there's one big Famitsu magazine, as well as system-specific versions of it. So, the score of 39 is either false or from Famitsu XBox.

For the millionth time, DOAX scored a 31/40 from Famitsu (9,7,8,7). I don't know where these 39/40 scores are coming from. Newtechnix is a french site, which is hardly a good source to go for on Japanese video magazine reviews. I live in Japan, I went to the newstand a week ago and SAW the actual famitsu review. It's 31/40. End of story.

Well ok I went to the newtechnix site (I forgot I can read French! haha). They are quoting the score from the "Famitsu Xbox magazine". So apparently Famitsu publishes a separate Xbox only magazine. I've never seen it at any newstand here in Japan though! Anyway, there's your answer. I do know that the only scores with any real credibility in Japan are the regular Famitsu ones. For all I know the Famitsu xbox mag is subsidised by Microsoft (I wouldn't be surprised).

It would rock if Nintendo Power gave a 10 to all the games they review.

famitsu xbox is a quite common magazine in osaka, they do however usually mark higher than famitsu does.. that is true, famitsu have quite a few specific magazines in addition to weekly each of which does the same thing, that is to give the games higher scores than the weekly version. they also have a ps2 and gamecube mags from memory.

Hey Blueskied,

Can you post Famitsu's scores here for AAA games that's out? That would be great to see what the Japanese gamers are thinking about big-name titles there.

I agree whole heartedly with blueskied... plus Newtechnix are controversy mongers... I mean it was posted today that a article on their site said the FFXII wasn't going to be on the PS2.... and I doubt seriously that that would happen as long as Sony has a hold on the market.

They didn't wrote that, they we're only wondering if there any chance that FFXII would be released on the GC after reading the interview with Miyamoto in the Famitsu mag.

But you're right, everything they say has to be taken lightly. They're the one who start the Capcom buyout fiasco.
