360 controller to PC/OS

I'm currently running Windows '98 on someone else's PC, and for the time being I was wanting to purchase a 360 pad for emulation, etc.

Now, looking into it more, I found it only works with XP until I stumbled upon this. The last post reads about:

Quote:
pcruthven: I figured someone around here might have knowen of a generic USB gamepad driver for Win98 which might work with the Wired USB Xbox 360 controler.
You could give XBCD a bash - this supposedly works for 98/2000/XP (but the rumble still doesn't work). Good luck though, the only game I found the controller useful for was Lego Star Wars.

Now, upon visiting XBCD there's numerous installation files. Is this all complete bullshit or could I get a 360 pad running on '98? If anyone has '98 or even gives a shit any help would be nice.

Good luck with the controller. I just purchased one and I can not get it to work on my system. I believe its a Motherboard USB issue.

98 is an iffy OS. Really, everyone should of moved to the far superior XP by now. Give those drivers a shot and see how it goes.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone writes up, or has already written some drivers to get the X360 pad to work on Windows 98.

BTW, unless the game has the Games for Windows logo on the box, don't expect thwe rumble to work. As a matter of fact, the only games that I know that support the rumble feature in the X360 pad are Halo 2 Vista and Shadowrun.

I'm not sure about getting a 360 pad to work on 98, but i got it working on my friend's xp system. I just had to download the drivers for him and they worked like a charm. But as far was win 98 drivers, the oldest ms os drivers i could find were for windows 2000.

Not sure if that'll help at all or not.

Games for Windows is just a new marketing strategy. Nothing to do with rumble.

Yeah. Tomb Raider supports rumble but thats probably do to the fact it supports controllers altogether.
