Firefox 3 Beta 4 is Released!!

Much faster than the Beta 3 that I tried out, and I'll probably keep this one unlike the last one that I tried.

Release Notes

Security:

# Anti-virus integration: Firefox will inform anti-virus software when downloading executables.
# Vista Parental Controls: Firefox now respects the Vista system-wide parental control setting for disabling file downloads.
# Malware Protection: malware protection warns users when they arrive at sites which are known to install viruses, spyware, trojans or other malware.
# New Web Forgery Protection page: the content of pages suspected as web forgeries is no longer shown.

Download Beta 4

Feel free to check the speed of your current browser against the new Firefox 3.

JS rendering CSS Rendering (the final speed are the ones that matter for comparison purposes.)

My results:

JS Rendering:

IE 7:

Try/Catch with errors 78
Layer movement 766
Random number engine 125
Math engine 281
DOM speed 547
Array functions 31
String functions 31
Ajax declaration 1703
Total Duration 3562ms

Firefox 3b4:

Try/Catch with errors 19
Layer movement 129
Random number engine 40
Math engine 48
DOM speed 163
Array 9
String functions 14
Ajax declaration 45
Total Duration 467ms

CSS Rendering:

IE 7:

final time (less is better) 621 871 1425 4451

Firefox 3b4

final time (less is better) 156 342 194 364

Jesus I knew IE would get trashed but that is kind of sad.

FireFox for the win? Open source beats industry. I love those kinds of outcomes.

How bloated is it? Thats my main concern.

My second concern is if its security is back up to snuff, but we wont know that untill its release.

I've never found it that bloated of course I don't install every addon known to man either. Security has been improved especially with phishing and malware notification. Plus the built in A/V intergration has long been needed for the "most secure" browser out there.

Speed is the biggest improvement for me so far. Only using around 90mbs and I've been doing some heavy surfing.

Alright I'm going to try it out. What do I got to lose.

The only downside is that if I end up liking Firefox 3 I will have to leave Opera which has been soo good to me. I'ts a shame I cant have the best of both worlds

I do not think you should be using Opera on a PC engine in the first place.

Why? Its rated higher for security than Firefox2, has amazing speed (better than firefox 2), and a ton of awesome features.

Opera is a great browser.

I never see so much change between web browsers exception being only IE in the fact that it sucks and its terribly slow at times. I want a purdy browser thats functional that isn't safari. Whats so hard about that.

Like?

I also tried FF3 last night. I'm impressed. Still kinda bloated, but I suppose that wont matter as much on new higher end systems.

The speed is incredible though, even beats Opera.
