Rumour: Monkey Island 5 is coming

Quote:
Hi,

As you know, Lucasarts have been moving away from the adventure game genre. However they still hold the licenses too many of the famous adventure games such as Monkey Island. I was wondering if they are planning to release sequels to Monkey Island or Grim Fandango or any other adventure games.
Thanks in advance,
— James

James, the fifth Monkey Island is coming. I know some of the guys who worked on the music compositions for the original PC classics, and they say that it is currently being planned amidst rumors. However, LucasArts has so many things on its belt right now, including a Wii title that has yet to be named. Don’t expect any revitalizations of its classic graphic adventures until 2008 at the earliest. As for Grim Fandango specifically, the future for it right now is looking… well… grim.
Best news since they found another mass grave in Ukraine if true.

I would love this too be true, and I certainly hope it's better than the fourth (shudders).

4 was not that bad, but it wasn t good as the 3 before it. The real downside was that it was nt point&click anymore.
Even if they make a new Monkey Island, the original creator has left and unless they find a real plot and story, unlike 4 that messed it up, then it won t deliver. Besides Lucasarts doesn t really care anymore, they have their movie licenses and their in-house creativity is long gone. Better sell the series to dedicated people, like they did with Sam and Max, for the sake of Monkey Island and its fans.

I assume 2D is cheaper then 3D, yea? So why the hell make a game 3D when its fans (a smaller collection of gamers than big 3D franchises) like 2D more? It just doesn't make sense to make Monkey Island 3D except to gain new fans.

But seriously, I don't see an Adventure game boom in the future. The best way to do it is through word of mouth by pleasing the original fans first.

I'm pretty sure that if low end 3D that has been used in most adventure games isn't cheaper, it's certainly much easier than well animated 2D.
