Crysis DX9 vs. DX10 Videos

http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/791/791890p1.html

Ok the link has 2 clips. Sadly they're short and small. The first part shows the dx9 version and after that it shows it in dx10 mode. First clip is lots of fire, second clip is lots of trees. The most obvious things are stuff like shadows, reflections, lighting, and the sort. Would of liked better longer clips but these are ok. Though you wont see alot of the improvements sadly.

yeah I'm happy with the DX9 ver. of the game, not that big of a difference for me. It will probably run better on DX9 anyways.

Looks hot on both versions. But right now we are still waiting for it to come out just to know what $5600 card we'll need to run it.

I haven't checked these videos, but Gametrailers has the same ones. Not sure if they are at higher resolution, though.

I wonder of there is a DX9 card out that can run the game at max settings (no AA or insane resolutions, of course)?

Anyway, once DX10 takes off I'm going to dual boot my machine. That said, I'm in no hurry as it doesn't appear DX10 actually has any affect on gameplay or interactivity (or makes things easier/cheaper to implement).

I hope the game isn't as chop-chop-choppy as those videos were. Gawd-damn! If the game can't run at 100 frames per second on a 2560 x 1600 monitor, then it just sucks. Anything lower resolution than that is just completely wimpy. Anyway the DX10 had better physics and nonsense like that. Looks like a pathetic game, though. Just another FPS that we've all played before, only prettier. Computer games would be good if they could make something besides FPS and Strategy games, both of which are crappy, lame-ass genres that only homosexuals love. Consoles rule. Jesus said so.

No, it doesn't have any effect on gameplay - unless you count higher hardware specs and more polygon-pushing as part of gameplay.

It's a graphics API - it's a programming tool for creating and rendering graphics, not designing gameplay. An API doesn't make a game automatically good, which is also the reason why I'm holding back on Crysis.

Not at the moment, but in many cases graphics can affect gameplay. A stealth based game could gain a good bit more depth from the lighting/shadowing aspects provided by DX10. On the other hand, your typical FPS game or RTS (the vast majority of games) aren't effected in the least bit when it comes to interactivity or gameplay.

Some FPS games do. Thief for example.
