Ditch consoles, play on PC instead.

Pretty cool article. He pleases the master race. I'll quote a bit, but click the link to read 3 pages of interesting points.

Quote:
As all of my brain-spilling over the previous pages will probably tell you, Im a man who values games as a progressive, developing medium. Im not Jimmy FIFA or Johnny Halo. I crave new talent, new ideas, new aesthetics and new ways of seeing games as both fun and art. And the more I think about it, the more I realise that the stuff I want is available in abundance on the PC. Just check out this small (massive) selection of this year's stuff for starters. And then this one.

As much as we gamers moan about the increasing homogenisation of mainstream games, we never acknowledge that the problem is utterly exacerbated on consoles. We ignore the fact that the development freedom that we say we want is happening every day on the PC. We rightly champion the odd console release like Braid or Limbo as a mighty strike for creativity, but there's a raft of stuff in that vein happening all over the PC every day, along with more new IP than you can keep up with. We complain, but we rarely make the leap away from the systems and structures that cause the problems we lambast.

And Im beginning to think I might be ready to.

I still need my exclusives, so I always end up getting all the consoles. But if a game is offered on PC (and isn't a horrible port or something broken like that), then I'll get it for PC. PC Gaming is the rock of my modern gaming collection.

Why ditch one or the other and not just play both.

massive assumption there

i'm pretty sure most, if not all, gamers have a pc/mac, where they have games on

whether it is the "rock of [their] modern gaming collection" is another thing

that being said, i think 80% of my gaming, i've realised, has been on pc recently

People who just play Minecraft on their PCs aren't 'PC gamers'. If you make a picture on Photoshop, you don't go around calling yourself a graphics designer.

I'd agree with Alucard. People get consoles because they're cheaper and more accessible, and so PC gaming doesn't seem all that welcoming at a first glance. But for a PC gamer, they look down and don't have that same limitation of seeing the consoles as inaccessible and expensive, and so are more likely to pick them up somewhere down the line because of that.

I wonder how many more times we can post that...

from my experience, people also get consoles because of exclusive games

the two main put off from PC as the core system as i see it is

a/ 1st party games from nin/sony/ms
b/ the one off cost of building a rig thats worth while having compared to a console.

/goes back to playing Wii Xenoblade in FullHD and 90FPS/

Oh yeah, exclusives play a big role in it, every platform has them, but to a young teenager going into GAME to buy a console, or a mum buying their son a game system, etc. would they go for the easy, cheaper console which comes in a big box with bundled games, or the expensive PC with thousands of different combinations of parts they get from a specialist store? I know which one they'll probably go for. PC gaming requires you know more about your hardware, it's generally a lot more involved than console. And before anyone leaps in and says anything, that's not an insult, it's just how it is.

But whereas a PC gamer might nab a console for cheap to play its exclusives, you can't really get a gaming PC for cheap in the same way just for it's exclusive, that's what I mean. People generally don't do that.

For the average consumer, yup, pretty much. If Console gamers saw a full HD 60FPS game, their minds would explode!

PC has plenty of exclusives too so it cancels out. Also not wanting to build a pc because its expensive doesnt work. These days a console gamer goes out and spends around $500 on a system and controllers or whatever extras at least, then they go and buy like 5-10 games at a time. Their libraries are like dozens of games. The expensive argument went out the window when they had plenty of money to spend it on sub par shit that they got just because there werent any big games out and they wanted to play something random, though as stated not something they'd buy if there were better games.

no it doesnt cancel it out tbh .. Nintendo IP for example >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> anything on pc tbh for the average gamer. Yeah there some great ex titles on pc, but nothing that the average gamer cares about .. if they did it would be on console as well .. Diablo 3 is a prime example, i'll put good money on the next blizzard MMO being multi platform as well.

this ^^

but its more the majority of people, not just kids and parents cant be arsed with a pc .. they want to go to the store, buy a box plug it in and go .. the vast majority of gamers couldnt give a crap really about whats under the hood ..

Indeed. I'd much prefer to pay a bit extra to get a better experience. PC works out cheaper in the long-run too anyway, and you end up with a more powerful gaming machine than a console, and a more powerful PC than any PC you can just buy in a store. Since everyone says they saved money buying consoles and forgot to factor in the cost of their computer too. Spend 250 on an Xbox, then 400 on a PC, and end up with a worse gaming machine and a worse PC than someone who spent 600 on a gaming PC. lolololol

And when you're all buying the Nextbox and PS4, we don't need to, our PCs still work fine. And don't even get me started on Steam sales.

Nintendo is the only console offering exclusives that match PC. We may have more and that's not to say ours are bad, Dawn of War 2 >>> Halo, Gears of War, etc. but, fuck, Zelda... I need Ninty's exclusives or my life is incomplete.

yeah as i said the average gamer couldnt give too hoots about Dawn of War2 .. which is my point .. if they did it would be multi platform .. no matter how bad it played with a pad

problem is with PCs yeah i paid 600 for my 560ti rig .. but parts are moreish .. i'v upgraded stuff i didnt need to really as you said the gpu already out performs ps4/nextbox/wiiu .. but we do it anyway.. so it does cost more tbh ..

when i built my rig i had 8gb ram and x1 560ti

i now have 32gb, x2 560tis in sli, i have a soundcard over the onboard i started with .. when the 600 series comes out later this year i suspect i will get one if the specs are rumored to be true ..

we do not need to upgrade but we do, its as moreish as heroin .. so it does cost just as much imo, if not more ..lol
