I watched the extended cut of the LOTR trilogy on Blu-ray. Not a single difference whatsoever from the regular extended cut. Even the quality itself looks the same in a way, but the movie already looked good to begin with. So there really isn't that much of a difference to get it on Blu-ray. But if you don't own the extended cut of the trilogy, then you could buy it on Blu-ray.

I got the LOTR extended for like $50 brand new and its like 15 disc total set, i'd say you get quite a bit, considering how much they want you to spend on blue-ray. Plus I heard where they even did more musical scores for the movie with the added features.. considering a lie like that wouldnt sell a damn thing.

I do own it on DVD. But DVDs suck in comparison to a good BD. I have a TV that takes advantage of the extra visual data and a system that takes advantage of uncompressed audio. Why wouldn't I want that?

Like I said, I'll just sit and wait on a deal....I pussyfootted about during black friday when everyone was selling them for $50. So that's my high mark for what I'd pay.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of Lord of the Rings. I'd love to nab them on Blu-ray sometime.

What I saw was just an import of the extended cut on Blu-ray. Don't think that I'm one of those people who can't tell the difference between DVDs and Blu-rays, because I have seen enough detail in most Blu-rays that I have seen so far. But when I saw the Return of the King on Blu-ray, I didn't see too much of a difference. The quality for me looked the same, and the contents in the box set in each disc is the same that I looked up for the Blu-ray. There was one feature that they added in, but it was for more of online uses, but I never bothered using that with any other Blu-ray that I have owned.

What I'm saying is that you are still getting the exact same extended cut, but on Blu-ray. You may think that there is a difference in the way how it looks, but looks don't mean much to everything.

EDIT: Get it, if you sure you want it. No one's stopping you, and not even I will stop you, because I can't.

Seriously there's a massive massive difference .. I have both DVD and blue ray. There's no comparison .. The sound alone on the blu ray is miles better .. As is the picture quality.

If I already had it on DVD, I wouldn't get the blu-ray one. Bit pointless, regardless of how much more crisp the video and audio is. But I have neither, so might as well get the better one.
