Now a good time to upgrade?

I'm pondering an upgrade from my 8800 GTS 640mb, to a 285*GTX, or 260/275GTXx2. ATI right now has the better bang for the buck card from what I read, but my mobo only supports Intel/Nvidia.

In almost all of my games, my current setup is more than enough, which makes me hesitate...but there are a few games where I want more...

like STALKER:SoC HEAVILY modded (makes the game photorealistic), see

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=540331&topic=48882903

anyway, I installed that mod, seeing that the author of it placed my card right at the minimum requirements, and was getting under 30 FPS...not good, I thought, so immediately I went to newegg and saw that the 280s had gone down a bit in price, and perhaps with the right newegg special I could order one of those, 260 GTX x 2 for the same amound of money, $300-600, depending on the setup, card(s), etc, not that bad considering when I built my PC a single 8800 GTX was >$500

What to do?

i'm digging myself into an even deeper hole the more i think Was even looking at how 3 GTX 260s would perform...definetly not worth it and risking the lack of driver support, so I'm back to either a GTX 295 or saving some money and going with a GTX 275+ CPU cooling setup so I can OC and gain some numbers that way. Tough decision, and I can't find the right benchmarks. Alucard recommended the 275, as it only loses 2-5 FPS versus the more expensive 285.

So, Alucard, given that I want to game at 1920x1200, should I shell out more for the 295, or stick with the 275? Tomshardware doesn't have benchmarks for the 295, but I did find some benchmarks from another site, hope they're legit. Mainly looked at Crysis since the other games they had there weren't demanding. Checking the link you sent me for benchmarks, it looks like the GTX 275 won't be enough to run STALKER: Clear Sky (27 FPS score), likely it'll be PLAYABLE w/o AA, but still, now that I see the numbers the GTX 295 looks like the way for me.

The GTX 295 outperforms the above ATI card, so now that I have a comparison I feel like I have no choice but to get the 295 due to STALKER: Clear Sky.

Take that back, sir!

I'm a regular poster on a number of PC boards, and I messaged Alucard about it, since he basically built my system (at least the components that really matter), recommended MSI which turned out great since their forums are extremely helpful and informative. Wasn't even going to update this but figured I'd take some pics...but the camera was taken by my brother somewhere, and I'm too busy buying expensive graphics cards to worry about my own digital camera. So that'll have to wait. The VGA looks awesome though, is super quiet and fairly cool.

As for no one replying before you... <shrug>
