New BioShock title confirmed as 2K reveals new studio Cloud Chamber

Would you kindly offer more deets?

2K Games has announced the founding of a new studio, Cloud Chamber, which is comprised of two teams working out of San Francisco and Montreal (the latter being 2K's first Canadian representation). It was also announced that the new studio was immediately getting to work on a new entry in the acclaimed BioShock series, which will be in development "for the next several years."

"As we continue growing our product portfolio, we remain inspired by opportunities to invest further in our valuable IP, great people and their collective, long-term potential," said 2K President David Ismailer. "BioShock is one of the most beloved, critically praised and highest-rated franchises of the last console generation. We can’t wait to see where its powerful narrative and iconic, first-person shooter gameplay head in the future with our new studio team at Cloud Chamber leading the charge."

Cloud Chamber will be headed up by Kelley Gilmore, a 22-year industry veteran with over 40 titles under her belt, and whose previous work with Firaxis helped bring about titles in the excellent XCOM and Sid Meier's Civilization franchises. "Our team believes in the beauty and strength of diversity, in both the makeup of the studio and the nature of its thinking," said Gilmore. "We are a deeply experienced group of game makers, including many responsible for BioShock's principal creation, advancement and longstanding notoriety, and honored to be part of the 2K family as stewards of this iconic franchise."

As for details pertaining to the new BioShock title itself, well, there are none. I think it's fair to say in actuality this press release is more an announcement of Cloud Chamber forming as a studio - with the BioShock tidbit attached for extra swagger. But regardless, it's great to hear that development has begun on a new entry in the memorable series, and here's hoping that Gilmore and the Cloud Chamber team knock it right out of the park... er... clouds... er... subterranean art-deco city...
