I guess my biggest gripe with non-linear games is that its not always the perfect happy ending. (im a sucker for cliche's)

I like to be told a story more than I like creating my own.

The story doesnt change just because its non-linear. It just means you have the option of going wherever you want, EXPLORING, instead of being given a set path and say 'You must go to this village for the story and you arent allowed to travel anywhere else'. That just gets annoying.

And I love sad endings.

Planescape: Torment has one of the most heart-wrenching stories ever told in an RPG, and some of the best prose ever written for a game. Nothing in a Linear Console RPG comes close to it. Its one of those few games that use lots and lots of text to describe situations, envioronments and feelings, while most console RPGS limit text to dialogue.

Torment was like the perfect mix between a good book and a game.
