Taiwan is expected to lead the world in game console manufacturing

According to a recent analysis of manufacturing by the Taiwanese Market Information Center, Taiwan is expected to lead the world in game console manufacturing next year. The revelation comes after several months of exponential growth in the game console manufacturing market for Taiwan. Based on recently published figures, Taiwan game console production within the first six months of 2002 amounted to 1.39 million units (including PlayStation 2 and GameCube). For the second half of the year however, Taiwan console production has grown to an estimated 8.39 million units (including GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox). For the year, Taiwan was responsible for manufacturing an estimated 25.7 percent of all game consoles. That figure is expected to grow about 50 percent next year as companies continue to focus their manufacturing efforts on the Taiwanese market due to its low cost opportunities.

They do it to cut cost. China is the main production place for PS2, GC & XBox.
