EA earnings
Quote:
http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/08/01/ea...ults-revealed/ Pretty interesting considering the consoles are pushed so so SOOO hard when it comes to marketing. Obligatory 'PC gaming is dying' |

Well the consoles are just sort of chugging along right now while the PC is really flourishing with all the brand new stuff like Steam, free-to-play games, mods, and more; it's definitely the more exciting platform right now in what's going on and I'm not surprised it's earning companies a lot.

Whats also interesting is that the PC only gets a select few titles. We don't have the entire EA library on the platform.

And majority of the EA sports games sell mainly on consoles. I know this as I will only play fifa on my console.

Kind of shows the beauty of digital distribution, particularly when owning your own outlet; I'm guessing 1 sale on Origin is probably akin to about 3 or 4 retail sales in terms of profit gained.

If you're dumb enough to pay the same money for a digital release as you would for a physical one then yes, it must be. Thats not gonna work with all of us though.
Alucard, not to rain on your parade but a part of those PC revenues are subscription fees aswell, wich work alot better on the PC. Still, the PC is smaller than half the console market, though it isnt bad at all.

I actually prefer digital releases because I'm an idiot when it comes to CD keys. I lost my Mass Effect 1 key and Diablo 2 CD key in the process of moving. Would never happen if I got them digitally.

PS3 and xbox are 2 audiences not 1. It costs money to put it on both platforms. Its not free. The games are made on the pc, then sent through the xbox, which is the easier conversion, then extra money is spent on the ps3 version because the ps3 is a dodgy thing to program for.

I also dont believe those earnings involve MMOs. And no way is it half as small. Its a different audience that focus on different things. Plus many PC gamers have consoles. |

I thought this thread was talking about EA making a pair of earrings.

Most of those games that sell well, those are also PC games. You know... fps games. They're aimed at PC as well. The only difference is the marketting is hammered on xbox and ps3, never pc. Yet look how the ignored platform keeps up. Imagine if they showed proper videos of the consoles and then adverts for the pc video quality. Or even advertised it full stop.

I'm actually surprised how fairly equal those sales figures are distributed, all in the upper half of 200 million. I expected more fluctuation. Shows how each of those platforms still represent a major user-base(and as such: money). That's not gonna change anytime soon regardless which system is the 'best'.
On the topic of marketing I rarely see platform exclusive advertisements/commercials though. There is no need to anyway because most games are multiplatform. |

Here in the UK I see quite a few XB360 adverts on the TV that don't mention the PS3 versions of multiplatform games and just show XBox load-up video at the end.

Yeah you're right, same here but I guess I don't even notice it anymore. That 'Jump in' or whatever has been around for ages now. I always automatically assume they are promoting the 360 version and not an exclusive title. Unless it's a Halo game ofcourse :p
