need consumer feedback about DVD writers

I came across this very cheap DVD writer selling for USD70 without manual/software. It directly from factory and it can write on dual layer DVDR

Does anyone here own a BenQ DVD writer? Need to know if it's a good/ok writer.

It seems to be a pretty good drive. Its still fairly new so I dont know about lasting power. However a big point to make is currently that drive aint Dual Layer compatible. They're going to release a free firmware that you can flash your drive with and it'll make it dual layer. But this wont be till September supposedly. Not that its a big problem since DL discs are a little expensive still.

Do you know if the Pioneer AO7 DVD writer can write DVD9/dual layer DVDs?

Can someone tell me if this "Pioneer 107D 8X DVDR/RW/CDR/RW OEM" writer is better than the "Pioneer A-07XLA DVD-R/RW DVD+/-R+/- 8x4x4x Blk"?

I assume the 107D is no better than the A07 because is an OEM, but I need to make sure.

107 is just the OEM version. AO7 comes with software. Thats the only difference. 1=OEM, A=software.

I think mine came with software, but I lost it, so my A07 turned into a 107

So... those 2 models are identical? I thought the OEM version is a Pioneer on the inside but marketed & sold under different brand.

And does A07/107 needs any driver, because I'm planning to get the OEM and it doesn't comes with any anything, not even the box.

Whatever you do, dont get a Lite-on. My friend bought a cd-burner, and when ever it loads a disc its Outrageously loud. When I first heard it, I thought it was the HD about to explode. He cant put a CD in at night cuz it will wake his family up.

I have a Lite-On CD writer.. and yes, it is loud when reading CDs at maxium speed but not when writing. My Creative CD writer is WAY much louder than Liteon!! My Lite-on writer is way better(still in good working condition after more than 1 year) than my Creative CD writer, My Creative CD writer needs driver for writing CDRs and now it won't even read CDRs anymore.

Because of my experience, I wouldn't recommend Creative's CD drives&writers alot more than Liteon's writers.

btw, for those who have a Pioneer DVD writer, do you need to install a driver for it to write DVDs?
