Seagate HDD 7200.11 drives are failing/bricking!

http://forums.seagate.com/stx/board/...cending&page=1

If you have one, like me, BACK YOUR SHIT UP NOW!

There is any fix for it yet, and all I've been doing since I woke up is backing everything to a old HDD and DVDs.

bah, I'm going to go buy a sumsung HDD.

It's the firmware, it will randomly just brick it and bios won't see it anymore so you won't be able to get your data anymore and seagate isn't very helpful about this neither.

I was hoping my drive wasn't firmware SD15 but it is DAMNIT!

So while my drive works now, apparently they've been doing this for months now and seagate doesn't care, wish I found this info out before I bought it, ugh.

I work 20 minutes from their HQ in Scotts Valley. I'll go and complain after work on Wednesday.

go to their main website and download their seatools diagnostic software and it will tell you.

http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/sup...loads/seatools

here you go. But it's mostly in the HDDs that have the 32MB buffer. If yours is a 16MB buffer, you're probably ok.

Freaky. Defective line, thats pretty sad. I ignore western digital. Last one I got was one of the portable usb hdds. The piece of shit gave me no end of grief since day 1 till it finally pissed me off enough that I obliterated it.

Just got it, sending it back, losing money because of shipping and a 10 dollar restocking fee..

I still need an HDD now, and all my PC parts are here for my new gaming PC!!

I would fight that, saying they know about the defective HDDs and they didn't pull them.

Actually, that's funny.
My 500gb seagate failed and while in the processes of trying to troubleshoot I broke off the sata-bridge that hovers above the sata connection, voided my warranty.

I wouldn't have sent it in anyways, with all of the pirated stuff on it.
