PSTwo

In 2000, Sony released the Playstation 2, in 2004, Sony released the PSTwo for a price of $150. Not bad at all, I was at my local BBV last Thursday and decided to trade in my old PS2. I decided to buy a new PSTwo, it's been a week and nobody has bought my old PS2. Anyone that buys it has to beware though, the dvd player doesn't like certain dvd's and it attracts dust like a magnet, and if your a smart PS2 owner, you'll play it vertically. Anyways, the new PSTwo is pretty awsome, and I kinda miss my old PS2, but the goodbye wasn't as heartbreaking as when I traded my old PS for a PS1. What makes the new model so great, lets find out.

Design - 9
Much better and you can now safely play it vertically or horizontally, in other words, the PSTwo will read discs just fine no matter what position you have it set up in. I had deducted one point for these reasons though, the controller ports are kinda hard to get to, and the multitap doesn't fit, the power and eject buttons are also a little toublesome. The PSTwo is also always on standby, but I don't have any problems unplugging it(which Sony suggests). The other beef I have with the PSTwo is that I actually have to buy a vertical stand now. Theres a broadband and modem adapter built in and that kinda eleminates the no multitap flaw. The other thing is that this console is tiny, and it isn't that easy to grip either. Also, people that front on the PSTwo's inferior hardware should definitely stop now. Why, well if Sony managed to fit this inferior hardware into all that tiny space, then it isn't so inferior when they can make it super small. I'd like to see Ninty and Microsoft make GCN's and Xbox's as small as PSTwo's and make profits while doing so.

Durability - 8
I've dropped my PSTwo a few times, and it works perfectly, it also loads faster than any old PS2 model. Everything that was wrong with the PS2 has been fixed, well except for an overheating problem that supposedly occurs. I havent got one yet, but this thing does heat up, and it heats up fast. I've picked up hot discs fresh from nearly every other cd console except the old PS2's, yet the PSTwo now treats me to the same thing as the Xbox and GCN. None the less, it's a lot more sturdy than the old PS2's, I had a 30001 and feared every moment that wnet on whenever I moved it. But with the new PSTwo, I no longer have to be afraid.

Games - 9
Same as before, nothing has changed, I can't play GGI, but that isn't that much of a loss since I don't own the game.

Graphics - 8
Again, same as before, but my new model doesn't choke up as much as my old one did. Hooray for less slowdown.

Sound - 8
Once again, same as before, but I belive the new model before the PSTwo, supported a better sound sytem. Either way it makes no difference to me, I've been playing my video games on a '13 inch tv with mono sound.

Controllers - 9
Just look at the old PS2 review.

Average - 8.5
Are people sold on sexy hardware? Yes, I know I am, but then again, I got my PSTwo for other reasons. I didn't want to see the day that my PS2 croaked and I want to play import games, I'm sick of these ****ty US DDR games.

You forgot to mention that the hard drives are not compatible with the PStwo.

I also have a 30001 and it just gives me too many problems. I might buy a PStwo some time this year.

No multitap>No hd support, besides, the hd isn't that important, and the GCN doensn't have one, yet what most people yell at Ninty for is that theres no online support.

Dance Dance Revolution 4th Mix

Wow, another DDR game, but let it be known, that this was one of the best DDR games and still is. With just a little bit more songs than half of DDR Max 2, this mix was awsome, and heres why.

Graphics - 8
The game is pretty, but it runs at 45 fps, thats just the characters and backrounds though. The arrows actually move at 30 fps. Very colorful and detailed, I'm still wondering why konami didn't make this mix run at 60fps, it could've been done, but I guess they were lazy about it.

Sound - 10
The sound in this game is awsome, and there good reason for it too. None of the songs suck, many of the songs in this game can be found spread across all of the US releases, but they belong in this mix as God intended it to be. The announcer is also really annoying, but with a simple trip to the options menu, you'll never have to hear him ever.

Gameplay - 9
The good thing about this mix is that I'm not tortured when playing. I don't have to sit through so many booring and ****ty songs. The only downside to the gameplay is the pressure that it put on you. The arrows arent as responsive as they are in later games, so you have to be somewhat more precise. This helps when you play the later 60fps mixes, but it's still a bit of a problem. The other awsome part about this game is that you can turn off those X, O, Square, and Triangle buttons. This makes for more accurate steps and believe me, it helps. Next is the battle mode, you can only play battle mode with two people, and you share arrows, yes, different player patterns had been done way before Donkey Konga.

Song list - 9
This mix has an awsome song list but it's missin g Petit Love from Smile DK. That was an awsome Petit Moni song. Other songs like Buble Bee, Holic, Kick the Can will have you hooked and ready to earn even more awsome songs.

Replay - 10
I never really got tired of playing this mix as opposed to all the other mixes that I have. This one was the most fun, the song list is great and there are over 52 songs to play.

Overall - 9.2
The best DDR there ever was, only DDRMax(Jap) and Extreme(Jap) come close.

I have the smaller ps2. I like it. About the hdd support, there is supposidly some thing called USB loader coming out which will allow you to use an external hdd with the slim ps2. If you want too read more about it you can just google it.

Bujingai: The Forsaken City

This review goes out to Chrono081, he wanted to know what this game is like and in this review I'll tell all. Let me also make one thing clear, although it's easy to compare this game to Devil May Cry, it isn't, and anyone that expected this game to be DMC and bad mouthed it because it wasn't should be shot. This game has been compared to Ninja Gaiden, DMC, and Shinobi, though these are all action games, all four are completely different in gameplay, plot, and style. It's like comparing DDR to Parappa the Rapper, genre is the same, but the premise is different, now then, onward to the review.

Story:
Your name is Lau Wong, after a defeat from your best friend 3000 years ago, you return to Earth only to find it in chaos. Apparently a nuke went off somewhere in Asia, but it just happened to have effected the whole planet. Now Earth is overrun by demons and ****, and the ring leader is your best bud. Kill him to stop this crap.

Graphics - 8
The graphics in this game are awsome, from the backrounds to the character models, all of it was done well. There is slowdown, but it only occurs when needed, you know, when kicking serious ass. The attacks that the main character alone has are overflowing with eye candy. However, the game doesn't have a high poly count and Lau's hands are always stuck in the same position, no matter what.

Sound - 7
Great sound, some tracks can get somewhat repetitive, but that doesn't take away from the ost. I also heard that Gackt's Mind Forest song is in this game, I havent heard it yet, but I've heard it on the Japanese commercials and his Crescent album, which I own. To be honest, this game should have had some Gackt songs in it like Asrun Dream or Illness Illusion. There is also voice acting in this game, and despite Gackt, Maaya Sakamoto and Spike's(Cowboy Bebop) Japanese seiyuu being in this game, you only hear Gackt. Bam! decided that it would be best to dub over all the Japanese voices for Lau in the fmv's and leave his voice alone in the game. But they didn't follow suit with the other characters' voices, thats ok though, I like hearing Mojo Jojo's voice when in training mode as his VA does a great old Chinese guy. Either way, the voice acting is pretty good, but it's a shame that theres no option to switch for those stupid anime fans.

Gameplay - 8
Now the action part of the gameplay could have been more in depth, but thats ok, because the real depth isn't about kicking ass, but about style. Yes, while DMC, and Ninja Gaiden had a lot of style, their gameplay was based on just kicking ass, Bujingai takes a different route. Your job is to kick ass with style, I've beat some stages with over 1000 hit combo's and got major points for style. Hell, the game automatically makes you create your own gameplay video before you actually start the game. Wall run, jump, glide, explore, counter, clash, dodge, wall jump, and most importantly, kick ass with style, that is what this game was made for. You can also level up your attacks and there are even spells to be found in stages, you gotta look for them though.

Replay - 9
Theres a ton of stuff to be unlocked, and while this game is only 10 hours, there are multiple difficulties and many other things to do, like speed runs and getting better ranks in stages.

Overall - 8
Another great game from Red entertainment, and heres hope for a sequal. Gungrave got one and with how much better Gungarve OD was, the potential for a sequal is very high. It was also nice of Bam! to leave the Japanese game intact.

Resident Evil 4

In 1996 Capcom released the crapfest known as Resident Evil, yes crapfest. Survival horror my ass, those games had bad camera angles, controls and ****ty gameplay. With the exception of RE2, all games also had a so so plot, but RE4 changes that, well everything except the plot, but after playing so many Megaman games, plot holes are easily dealt with in Capcom games. RE4 is the only one in the series that I actually like, heres why.

Story - 7
The President's daughter has been kidnapped, it's Leon's job to bring Ashley, the President's daughter, back. Leon is the hero from RE2, well the lesser hero as Claire was the better hero and character. Leon isn't very emotional about his job, which is a good and bad thing. This game is so realistic that having someone whom isn't afraid of anything just destroys the point of having such awsome graphics. This game also doesn't continue the Racoon City/Umbrella story either, some say that it all falls apart at the end but I caught on when I rescued Ashley.

Graphics - 9
The graphics in this game are amazing, it only runs at 30fps with minimal slowdown. This game also looks better than any PS2 and Xbox game that I've seen so far, but what does this say about the PS2 and Xbox? I do have a few gripes, like clipping errors, these mostly occur when trying to cut or shoot a zombie at close range as well as blowing off zombie heads. Those annoying and crappy camera angles are also gone, and good riddance, infact, this game is always letter boxed in 3rd person.

Sound - 8
There really isn't much music but the music that there is, sets the mood. When there are zombies or a boss nearby, you'll hear some music, and when thier gone the music is too. The voice acting in this game is also really good, but theres next to nothing in Leon's voice, he doesn't serious about his job at all. At least I can laugh at the zombies when they speak Spanish. The blue guy that sells you stuff is also pretty funny, especially his laugh.

Gameplay - 9
This is how you make an RE game, the tank controls still exist, but the permanent 3rd person camera is why it works so well. Your 180 turn is still existant and you can still smoke herbs to heal your wounds. One other thing that make this game so much better is that there are no more ink ribbons, but there arent anymore safe rooms. You now have a better aiming system and can buy different guns and level them up to kick some serious ass. But to be honest there are only three guns that you will need in this game, your handgun, shotgun, and the rocket launcher. Everything in this game is interactive and there are some parts where it goes Shenmue on you, not a bad thing at all either, it actually makes me wonder why Shenmue 1+2 werent ported to the GCN now. Now it's time for the bad and not so bad. The Shenmue parts of the game are awsome, but an accidental button press will result in death most of the time.

Very rarely will you get to live after pressing the wrong button when running from a boulder, cutting the parisite on El Gigante's back, or dodging trees and El Gigante's shoulder tackle. Next up is after rescuing Ashley, you have to escort her around, you can tell her to wait or stay. She can be a pain in the ass to protect when there are zombies running about, so the best option is to just tell her to wait someplace far away from all the chaos, and then call her. Your knife also takes longer to draw than your guns, and the game doesn't like to register you cutting a zombie in the face even though your right there. So you either take damage or miss and then take damge. Feel free to use a shotti and PB a zombie, but his doesn't work too well with the handgun though. The AI is better in this game, but either way they still get wasted increadibly easy. There are also times when Leon is too much like a tank, you can't roll or sidestep and that can become problematic in some situations seeing as though Zombies can actually sidestep, out prioritize your attacks, and run fast. Lastly, this game is not scary, theres nothing scary about it, infact, everything that you said you would do that the stupid White person didn't do in a horror film, you get to do in this game.

Replay - 10
The game is fun, and that was something that the past 8 games lacked. For a person that didn't like any of the past RE games, I sure did have a lot of fun with this and soon even more fun. Theres a bunch of sub missions and speed runs to be done and a lot of shooting the creepy sales guy, chickens, cows, snakes and fish for food and most importantly, killing Ashley for being in the game.

Overall - 8.6
Wow, it's lower than everyone elses' ratings here, well the point is that I like this game and if you round up, you still get 9, so I can't be that far off. I actually borrowed both this game and a GCN from my friend and EB is selling GCN's for $60. This game is currently $50 so I might consider picking this up.

Devil May Cry

I preordered DMC3 2 months ago and GS had just called me saying that my copy will be available tomorrow. Thats a bunch of bull ****, as I wanted my copy today, but I can always play DMC until then. You are Dante, a lame ass bad ass, who takes on a job from a blonde chick, Trish. She wants you to go to a castle way off somewhere and kill things, this is also after she throws a motorcycle at you. Let me make it clear that I don't give a damn about plot in action games, so it isn't getting scored, onward to the review.

Graphics - 9
The graphics in this game are killer, theres like one layer of anti aliasing and it moves at a constant 60 fps. The camera angles are also very dynamic, making for some nice angles, this game is a true work of art when it comes to eye candy. Artists can learn a lot just from looking at the visuals on this game. The character designs are also very well done.

Sound - 8
Ambient and when the music is needed, it comes, the voice acting is top notch and if anyone didn't notice already, Leon's RE4 va is actually Dante's va in this game. The fight music is freakin' awsome in this game too, I just love the boss fight theme with Phantom.

Gameplay - 8
The gameplay is awsome, the controls are very akward and the dynamics of the camera tend to mess up the gameplay and controls. The dodging system could have been better, but it's still pretty good, there is also no blocking, which would have been nice, it was in the Onimusha games. None the less, I enjoy kicking ass, and in this game theres a lot of asses to kick. It is awsomely hard but it's more of a good thing, and whatever strategy you use determines the pattern that some bosses and enimies will do and what openings are available. It's a lot more in depth than say Ninja Gaiden, I like both games and there are some things that I like that arent in DMC, but theres more trail and error involved in Ninja Gaiden than ther is in DMC. Theres also a combo system, but they arent like "4 hits," as it's how your kicking ass that determines how great your combo is. Theres also a Devil Trigger which lets you turn into a devil and get awsome strength and skills, but even then you still have to know how to play to get the most out of it.

Replay - 9
There are tons of things left to do in this game, hidden missions different difficulty's and easy to pick hard to master game play is what keeps me coming back.

Overall - 8.5
This game is awsome and I'll be playing this game even after I get DMC3, which comes out tomorrow.

So true. And she threw the sword into his chest. Can you imagine if somebody tried to run you over and then asked you to help them do something?
