If this comes anywhere close to 40 - 50 hours of game time, I would gladly pay full-price for it.

Did the first game have much of a modding Community, and will this one have some/any mod support at all?

You should finish the first one! And there were some mods made for it like majority of pc games out there.

I've tried playing it a few times now. I'm just not a fan of the combat system, thats the only problem. If it had a bad UI, or some boring bits in the gameplay, could get past that. But just not a fan of the combat and since thats something I'd be doing a lot, just can't bring myself to finish. Especially if its 40 hours long; I've got barely 2 hours logged into it, across 2 differant playthroughs.

I'm hoping that the story of it isn't too integral to the story of Witcher 2.

You're not even far enough to get your combos. Thats when it gets better and more tactical. Instead of just clickclick you actually decide what motions to do and what special attacks to do while you're fighting. Plenty of awesome games that had not so awesome combat, Crisis Core, Vagrant Story just to mention a couple. But I didnt enjoy witcher because of the gameplay. It was godly to me because of the story, characters, quests, the actual world. Awesome game.

I thought Crisis Core had decent enough gameplay to get by though, and probably one of the best endings to any game ever; the Witcher I just find annoying with the clicky clicky. Especially I was up to the bit with all the green ghouly dogs that come out of the ground, right near the start of the game when you leave the first village. And they just got spammed with every step I took, and thats when I just got annoyed and just stopped playing. And the lass I was escorting got killed by them and I have no idea if she was storyline integral or what.

I'll give it another try sometime tomorrow then, since I rage uninstalled it. I did think the characters and story were okay, just didn't get far enough into it to consider them that amazing. I think the character design for Witcher 2 is much better though; Triss is always naked in screenshots, I approve of that.

You get these combos quite soon-ish then? I'll probably be starting another playthrough, since dropping a game with a good storyline for a little while and then picking it up mid-way is always shitty; not too far into it so s'all good.

If it's the first lady you meet with her son, I don't think you can save her. The outcome is predetermined, like in most JRPG's.

If it's the witch/sorceress, then your actions determine if she lives or dies. If you are only two hours in though, you probably haven't reached that part.

You shouldn't of let the simple combat at the begining slow you down. The combat in every single RPG I have ever played starts out simple and slowly progresses and gets more epic as you get better weapons and level-up.

The Witcher is one frikin' awesome game. I need to finish it myself. I've done every single mission in the countryside in Chapter 1 and I'm about to enter the city and begin Chapter 2.

Witcher is a JRPG? I thought CD Projekt were in Europe.

Anyways, yeaaah I guess I should have given it more of a chance since it's gotten such good reviews and quite a few awards. A 9.3 user score on Metacritic ain't bad at all. Just sure, combat changes and gets more advanced in all RPGs, I love RPG games and know that, but it doesn't outright change into a completely differant type of gameplay basically. If you don't like the initial base of the combat, I didn't expect many additions to remedy that.

But okay, since Witcher 2 is shaping up to be epic, may as well give the Witcher another go. I'll start to reinstall it through Steam tomorrow. New Internet will download it in like 5 minutes <3

He was saying jrpg as an example. Remember theres 2 views/modes of combat. The top down view is the best way to play it, behind shoulder when you're in closed in areas like sewers. If you want Triss to be naked all the time then just place a nude mod in it lolololol. Theres plenty of boobs through the game including a naked dryad thing person and naked vampires whores.

Oh I never knew there was another view of playing in the game. That should help. I hated the default view of Neverwinter Nights 2 with the retarded camera move when your mouse hits the edge of the screen, but it got a lot better with a differant view; could be the same case for Witcher. It's got a 9.3 user score on Metacritic and thats higher than I've seen in a long time.

This game has boobs? Thats it, I'm playing it right till the very end now.

How did you not know about the other view? You find out about it during the intro tutorial when its telling you how to fight.

No idea mate, can't remember anything about about an alternate camera view in the tutorial bit; which I guess is when you're fighting in the fortress. I thought over-the-shoulder was all you got. I'm downloading the game as we speak, gonna replay the beginning. May as well.

I noticed the camera views in the options but didn't really care for any but the over the shoulder. When I restart it I think I'll give some other angles a shot.

What the fuck seriously. July cant come fast enough to get this 18+ rule pushed through. So inconsistant. First one had plenty of sex. Bloody Mass Effect 2 had sex and that was fine. Good thing I ordered my copy from overseas since the super duper artbook collectors version sold out here. Mind you the developers will make a patch that unlocks the sex aspect for that ONE quest, just like they made a patch to unlock all the nudity that was banned from the american version in the first one.

Hi Guys,
Just a word from developer:-) We are certainly not happy to apply any changes, but other option was to have kind of “adult” classification which cause that our game practically wouldn’t be distributed:-\ Decision surprised us but, well…life..
Good thing is that changes are really minor, as for the whole, huge content of the game.
Other thing is that same as with Witcher 1 censored for US market, you can expect almost “day 1″ fan patch, to add missing content. We know our dedicated fans and they love to correct things like this (technically is piece of cake). And even if we want to stop this thing to happen we can’t do anything about it :-D
Other option is to get international version through digital distribution. I know that the game is not available on Steam (we are on the way to solve it, hopefully more info soon) but on other services I’m pretty sure, that you can still order it. I don’t want to advertise any particular one here, but there is one which I would recommend, of course, the most;-)
All the best!
