winamp. i've tried to like foobar, but it's too much effort to set up and doesn't have all of winamps features. songbird looks alright but it's kinda slow to startup.

I use Winamp. Even when I do listen to music, it isn't for very long. So I select like 10 songs from my folder, and play them all.

I don't even think I know all of Winamp's capabilities. I've always just used it!

I just use my Itunes. It is much more easier for me to use than the other music players.

Windows Media Player. Too lazy after a reformat.

But it's usually Winamp/Itunes. So basically, whatever plays music.

Never heard of Foobar. Except they say it on Saving Private Ryan a lot. Did the soldiers want music?

Winamp and Windows Media Player. Gave up on iTunes.

A few years ago, my pc had a virus which required me to reinstall many programs, including iTunes. I thought it was no big deal since all my songs were on the iPod - just plug it in and transfer my songs to pc like before. Nope. It notified me that the playlist with those songs already existed and expected me to erase my music stored on the iPod before I could create a new playlist. After that, I uninstalled iTunes and sold the iPod. I didn't like their tags system, either. I also prefer simple drag and drop transfers for any audio file I wish.

I usually listen to new CDs for the very first time in iTunes just to tag them with the CDDB names (or whatever it is called now). That way if I rip a track or insert the CD again the names will all be there. If I want to copy a track, I just drag the file from the CD to the desktop or a folder where I want it. I don't let any other program "rip" for me. If I want to make an MP3 for whatever reason, I use LAME.

But for general purpose music listening, I use Quicktime. It takes up very little screen real estate and doesn't try to be a little bitch like iTunes, it just plays the damn file. I agree with Sans-Serif about the iTunes syncing crap... that was one of the reasons I gave away the iPod I got for free. Shit drove me nuts.

If I am using Windows, then Winamp is my choice of music player. Highly capable and versatile but with none of the crap that accompanies Windows Media Player. I never rip tracks in Windows, though, because it is a pain. Dragging the files from the CD only makes friggin' shortcuts. How gay is that? Instead, you need a freakin' plug-in to extract tracks from Winamp and have to go through a hierarchy of menus.

I don't use my computer to play music anymore, so it's just iTunes, but in college I used & liked WinAmp.
