Undoubtly this will get modded almost as soon as it gets out.

I feel there could have been some games that I would replace on that final list but it was impossible to please everyone. Even so this is actually a solid list of games that already made me consider buying it without the modding potential.

Didn't expect to see Strider or a new port of Darius on this one.

Adding to the assault, Japanese Mega Drive Mini getting CD and 32X accessories, not fair.

Japanese Mega Drive Mini variant features Mega CD and 32X accessories
Too small for CDs though

As part of yesterday's Mega Drive Mini live stream, in which we learned of the final 12 games headed to the tiny retro console, Sega also revealed the existence of a fun Japanese "Tower" variant, which will include cute Mega CD and 32X add-ons.

If that wasn't enough, the tower also features a fake Sonic & Knuckles "lock-on" cartridge, as well as a fake Sonic the Hedgehog cart to insert into that. Now obviously, these add-ons aren't functioning items, and are purely for fun aesthetics, but for those of you who remember the "Tower of Power" that the Mega Drive/Genesis became in its twilight years, The Mega Drive Tower Mini is a neat, if somewhat goofy, flashback.

Unfortunately, the full kit is currently only confirmed for Japanese release, with pre-orders already live on Amazon Japan. Hopefully the tower will head west, so we can all reminisce about the joys of having far too many cables lying around and sockets in use, just so you could play Corpse Killer.

The Sega Mega Drive/Genesis Mini launches worldwide September 19, priced around $80/70.

Now the only 16-bit system haven't got a mini version is the NEC PC-Engine/Turbografx-16, not sure if it will ever get the chance.

It would be too difficult to launch a pc-engine/turbografx-16 because it was a joint console between nec and hudson soft; since konami owns all hudson soft assets now that's a no.

You'll get better chances with konami launching a pachinko collection than that.

Despite the consoles failure it got some unique interesting games and ports, it would be nice to see it happen. Specially if added the cd games.

The Turbografx Mini has actually announced at E3.

Now I wonder if Sony takes all the games they included in Playstation Mini and de-make all of them into 2D 16-bit games, that would be really cool, it could get really popular. The reason people are so buying into these mini consoles is because of the nostalgia to 16-bit 2D graphics.

Yeah, I just saw the announcement.

Life is full of surprises after all or someone lurks around to prove me wrong.
