Seems like the early reviews were based on the beggining of the game and are not representative. The game gets better. Check out the Gametrailers review:

It was reviewed by Bloodworth. He is one of the few reviewers i trust in. He doesnt compromise to please companies and will go as far as changing the score of the review until he properly tests the whole thing.

http://www.gametrailers.com/reviews/...hadow-2-review

What this early expectation that the game would be bad did was lower the price of the game. I got it for 38 euros and it even brought a T-shit with the game cover printed on it. xD

Edit: Now that i've spent a few hours with the game i can give you my impressions aswell for anyone who needs them.

First i was surprised cause i was expecting the game to be action packed like DmC and Ninja Gaiden based on the demo (wich is the begining of the game). This doesnt mean anything bad however, just that it employs some more variety on the gameplay. Theres more exploration/ability to backtrack and theres some silly stealth segments, that while criticised are very short. The only problem with these is that you wont be feeling as badass or kickass as when you're playing the main portion of the game, but i understand that they were going for variety here (this kind of game at times gets criticised for beeing repetitive. Though thats usually cause people suck and just button mash to do the same combos over and over).

For referance this is my first 3D castlevania game. I only dabbled on some GBS/DS ones before but never went too far.

With that said... i was also surprised to see many castlevania elements like the destroying parts of the scenario to find goodies (including xp). Theres items to collect and the game can be punishing (though you have the void sword to recover health. But it will run out if you cant fill up energy for it by filling the focus bar, wich means hitting and blocking/dodging properly). Definitly a different feel from DmC and Ninja gaiden, more strategic.
A small mention to the graphics wich look amazing (if you dont knit pick), the music wich is pretty awesome and the story that has me gripped so far.

Theres also an interesting skill aquisition and mastery system to improve your skills. Lots of depth there into building your character.

Overall im very pleased with it. While surprised, not a bad surprised. Also it feels alot like its a spiritual sequal of the Soul Reaver games. Has a very similar feel. I like it... alot.

Ps: Oh... yeah and go on options and turn those darned QTE's off if you dont like them. Really helps the experience. You can also focus on absorbing the plot points instead of beeing ready to make timely presses or button mashes.

that's cool that you can turn off the qte's. i don't really care for them in the first game so far.

Yeah, I was a big fan of the first LoS and(expecting the worst) I'm really liking this one as well. It makes me wonder if reviewers even play the game or if Konami/Mercurysteam didn't bribe them enough. So far I played the game for 4 or 5 hours and the combat is fantastic and in terms of storyline and atmosphere its very similair in style and tone of the first. Even the lamented stealth sections are so short and insignificant that I wonder if reviewers played the game with broken limbs if they found it such an obstacle.

Anyways I'll save my final verdict until I've actually completed the game but so far so good. :p

I played the demo's of mirror of fate (3DS and PS3). I liked it, but when i wanted to buy it it was too expensive for what it was (3DS version).
I decided to just watch the story segments on youtube and when the PS3/360 versions came out i was like: meh... not gonna buy now. I already know the story.

Regardless, if you're worried wether its necessary for LoS2. They recap the events of mirror of fate early in the game, so you dont need to get it if you dont want to.

I wouldnt call it a spin-off though. Its vital for the main plot.

Nah, just some Italian horror. Meant to be pretty nasty in places as you would expect from a cannibal film.

Brought a US copy of South Park since UBI Soft Europe decided they'd censor the European version. Why the hell would I buy a censored version of South Park?

After 2 weeks of looking around and bugging mediamarkt, i called in today and to my surprise they had it in stock. A quick trip to Maastricht and here it is:

I got this with it as it was the only reasonably priced game (40 euros):

I only had time to set the thing up. No big impressions yet, besides the fact i was surprised that the PS4 shop looked just like the PS3 one. I do think its a good layout (better than Xbox marketplace) but ofc, it ran with alot less gagging than the PS3. It was very smooth.
I'm also looking forward to trying remote play with the Vita when i have time.

EDIT: Ok! Impressions. The touchpad is actually a button. It took me a while to figure that out and it felt really weird. I miss the select button. The share button is pretty useless unless you care about beeing that obnoxious guy that is in other people's faces about what he is paying.
I like that i can have different apps running at the same time. I freely navigated the web browser and the shop while the game was pasused. This means you can pause games, go look for something on the internet (like a guide or something) and go back into the game seamlessly. That is gonna be handy with FFXIV.

Oh... the light on the controller IS annoying. Sony is gonna earn alot of hate if they dont let us turn that off. When playing tomb raider and you have a torch in your hands the thing flashes between red and yellow ready to make any epilectic drool to their death. I'm not epileptic, but that is really annoying and distracting. Oh and the controller has a speaker... WHY?! I turned it off as soon as i could. Why would i want to have sound doubled when i have a TV for it?
Motion controls (six axis like) are still there, as was a completely non-functional voice recognition system. I was confused if Tomb raider was assuming i had the camera or if the controller is supposed to do that. Fact is, it didnt work. Had two people try and i have a spotless accent so that wasnt it at all. I will give it another try eventually. Both that and the motion controls could be turned off, wich i did.

So, lots of little gadgets that are completely useless. Whats good? The seamlessness of the Interface.

Graphics based on Tomb Raider: Good but not impressed with the potencial. Great lighting and particle effects like expected but the most "impressive" part was that the fps didnt chug at all in a constant 60fps nor any screen tears (wich is the same as saying none of the bad habits from PS3 and 360 so far). Thats next gen there. Its what we realisticly can demand. Stable framerates.
Seeing how underwhelming the graphics are so far, i have serious doubts that consoles will be able to survive the next cycle.

Oh and remote play... it works. Its nice to have it on the Vita. Its mostly useless too. Though i might have a use for it when FFXIV comes out. Also, theres no remote server compatibility. If you want to watch PC stuff on TV the old 360 or PS3 will have to do.

Despite all this feeback im quite happy with it (the design is beautiful), but like all those other 6 millions, the thing to be excited about here is the potencial of whats coming and what can be done with it, rather then what we can see so far. And Tomb raider is a good game.

I forgot to mention, the browser is faster and stable but doesnt beat the vita cause it doesnt seem to play youtube videos. Strangely enough embedded ones work, wich is bogus.

Wait until you play Thief. The brightness of the white changes depending how much you are hidden or not. So if you are in the open it's the brightest white then can most likely be seen from space.

If you play something like Killzone on the PS4 or Ryse on the XboxOne there are a pretty large difference in graphics. At the moment though most of the games being released started as PS3/XB360 titles or a quick ports. It'll take time before things start to show Batman: Arkham Knight should be a nice showcase.

Well, I think most developers have definitely hit a 'ceiling' in terms of production values. Espescially with the amount of copies that need to be sold in order to get a return on investment and the potential risks when(realistic) sales targets aren't met. The zero-risk alternative of social and mobile games might be too appealing for a lot of developers/publishers(as is already the case).

I think the new-gen will mostly be continuation of the status-quo, with more processing power delivering a more seamless experience(espescially with open world games) and more stable framerates. Other than that I don' see much difference quite simply b/c developers just don't have the money. Even the status-quo is already high risk/expensive for most developers. Just look at how fucking long it takes for just one decent game to come out for PS4/xbone(looking at you Watch Dogs).

But anyways, Arkham Knight alone is worth the PS4. :p
