Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 Still in Conceptual Planning Stage

More of the staff interviews regarding Final Fantasy VII Remake released via Final Fantasy VII Remake Ultimania have been posted on the internet by aitaikimochi. In one of the latest parts of a discussion, co-directors Motomu Toriyama and Naoki Hamaguchi and battle director Teruki Endo talked about what will happen in a Final Fantasy VII Remake part 2, including going over the larger world outside the city of Midgar. [Thanks, aitaikimochi, aka Audrey!]

Editor’s Note: There are Final Fantasy VII Remake spoilers below.

When they talked about whether development has already moved on to Final Fantasy VII Remake part 2, Hamaguchi stated that they have ideas in rough, conceptual planning stages, and that nothing is solid yet. Toriyama joked that since he was in charge of the Midgar section in the original game, he knows the section like the back of his hand, but needs to rewatch gameplay to remember the finer details.

As for the world map, the two agreed that the focus of the next game would be to allow players to explore the world outside Midgar, compared to the focused story of the first FFVII Remake. However, the way the world is constructed has to be considered, so that it can be balanced out to continue the ongoing dramatic narrative. Toriyama is apprehensive about how the large world will be made and stated that it will possibly be created using completely different techniques from those used to create Midgar.

Finally, Endo stated that he hopes to be even more involved with the next game’s core gameplay systems and contribute even better new gameplay designs and gameplay elements to Final Fantasy VII Remake part 2.

You can read the full statements below:

Note that the interview was recorded on March 19, 2020, around a month ahead of the game’s April 2020 release date. This means that circumstances may have changed slightly from when the interview was recorded.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is currently available for the PlayStation 4. You can also check out what Director Tetsuya Nomura had to say about the end of Final Fantasy VII Remake and the FFVII Compilation and the meaning of the term “remake.”

Tragic stuff.

A PSone game spaghettified in time. If you want to know what it would be like to throw a copy of FF7 into a Black hole, this is it! xD

Maybe after they are done with all the FF7 Remake episodes, they can release another condensed version of FF7R with the same game length as the original game.
