I would say its good combat and generic but insteresting lord of the rings story and fable like overworld with an MMO like game structure.
Its pretty enjoyable if you get into it, but its not something that will awe you in disbelief. It did deserve a sequal though, it did pretty well for a new IP (1 million +).

The story of Amalur is as generic as it gets but the game is still enjoyable if you pay no attention to it(not as if the story of Skyrim or Oblivion would win any prizes). It's more a non-linear action game in a wide open world with lots of customization to your character. I'm not a big fan of the visual style(think world of nerdcraft) but its still nicely done with lots of detail and a rich color palette.
For a studio's first try it wasn't bad at all. |
